The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the Delhi High Court verdict to award the death sentence to all four convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape case. The decision of the apex court – which called the case “rarest of the rare” – comes nearly five years after Jyoti Singh (called Nirbhaya by the nation) was gangraped by six men in a moving bus.

The incident had sparked nationwide outrage, with many demanding stricter laws in cases of sexual violence.

On the day of the landmark verdict, The Quint did a Facebook Live with noted lawyer and human rights activist Vrinda Grover. Grover is a reputed advocate who has worked exhaustively with victims of sexual violence. In 2013, she was included in TIME magazine’s annual 100 most influential list.
