Three Madhya Pradesh policemen who were injured in the controversial encounter of SIMI activists in Bhopal appear to have gone missing, reports Hindustan Times.

It was found that none of them were seriously injured and one of them has been attending office. A family member of another cop told a reporter at Hindustan Times that the policeman had gone to the hospital alone on his motorcycle.

The three were said to have been injured when fired upon by eight SIMI members who allegedly escaped from Bhopal jail and were shot dead by police in the encounter.

“They received cut injuries on hand and feet,” said SP (north) Arvind Saxena when asked about the nature of injuries.

After repeated requests by the daily, the names were released as special task force head constable Narayan Singh and crime branch constables Dinesh Khatri and Mayand Singh.

The reporter was told that the department is not disturbing the men as they are recovering.

Narayan Singh’s wife told Hindustan Times that he had been attending duty regularly.

The reporters were not let into Dinesh’s house and his family members claimed that he was not at home.

Mayand, who according to the police, had received cuts on his leg, could not be traced by the newspaper.

Police’s unwillingness to share details has raised more questions about the authenticity of the encounter, which has put the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government on the back foot for alleged human rights violations by the police.
