Fugitive Amritpal Singh's wife Kirandeep Kaur was stopped at the Amritsar airport on Thursday, 20 April, while she was trying to fly to the United Kingdom.
Immigration officials stopped Kaur at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar, acting on a lookout notice that was issued against her. Officials quoted by The Indian Express said that Kaur was not allowed to board an Air India flight to Birmingham, which departed at 2:30 pm.
The Punjab Police launched a crackdown against Amritpal Singh last month but there are no signs of where the Waris Punjab De chief may be.
His last confirmed location disclosed by the police was from the night of 19 March, while his last appearance was in a video released on 30 March from an unknown location.
Here's what we know about Amritpal Singh's wife, Kirandeep Kaur.
Several report said that Amritpal Singh married Kirandeep Kaur, a British citizen, who used to live in the United Kingdom, in a simple affair at his ancestral village in February 2023.
A senior police officer quotes by The Indian Express said that the pair met on the internet and subsequently bonded over their ideology.
While Kaur used to live in the UK, Amritpal Singh allegedly said that his wife would live with him in Punjab after the wedding, which is being claimed as a message for reverse migration, urging Punjabi migrants to return to the state.
Kirendeep’s family is reported to be from Jalandhar.
After the pair’s marriage, Amritpal Singh had said, “This marriage is a message for reverse migration. My wife will live with me in Punjab. We want Punjabis to return to Punjab and settle here.”
