A 16-year-old girl, who had gone to a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur to file a complaint against eve-teasing, was harassed by a head constable, as he asked her inappropriate questions over her 'character'.

A video of the incident, which has now gone viral, was shared by Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Twitter on Thursday, 25 July, with a post in Hindi saying: "This is the kind of behaviour towards a girl who had gone to file an eve-teasing report in a police station. On one hand, the crimes against women are not decreasing in Uttar Pradesh. On the other, the protectors of law have this attitude. The first step to give justice to women is to listen to them."

In the video, the woman is heard saying that she was eve-teased by a group of men and that her brother was beaten up for protesting.

The constable retorts by saying, "Why are you wearing a ring and this necklace? Why wear so many 'items'. You don't study. So much jewellery, why are you wearing it? What's the use of these? This just shows what you really are..." He then also pulls up the girl’s family.

The girl was accompanied by her family to the police station, with her brother shooting the video on his phone.

The constable, identified as Tar Babu, has been removed from duty, reported NDTV. An FIR has also now been filed in the matter.

Priyanka has been attacking the Yogi Adityanath government over alleged rise in crimes against women in the state, demanding action against those breaking the law.
