Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a four-nation tour across Germany, Spain, Russia and France from 29 May to 3 June. The primary aim of this trip is to strengthen bilateral ties with all four countries, while also drawing investments to Modi’s flagship ‘Make in India’ venture.
Germany
The tour will begin with Modi’s arrival in Germany on 29 May for the fourth installation of the the Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC).
- Upon his arrival in Berlin on 29th evening, he is expected to call upon German Chancellor Angela Merkel at Schloss Mesberg.
- On 30 May, the two leaders will convene the IGC meet, where they will be assisted by their ministers on bilateral agreements.
- Post-meet, the leaders will jointly address the Indian-German Business Summit.
Ministers who will be part of the Indian delegation to attend the IGC are Minister for Science & Technology Dr Harshvardhan, Minister for New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal, Minister for State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Seetharaman and Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar.
Germany is one of India’s foremost source in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and also is a leading technology partner. Several MoUs are expected to be signed over the course of the meeting.
Spain
Hereafter, the PM will travel to Spain on the evening of 30 May. This is the first visit made by an Indian Prime Minister in 30 years to the European nation.
- After reaching on 30 May, Modi is expected to call upon the Spaniard monarch King Felipe VI.
- On 31 May, he will meet Spanish President Mariano Rajoy at a luncheon, following which he will conduct a round-table conference with CEOs interested in expanding business to India.
Russia
Modi is to then fly to Russia for the St. Petersbrug International Economic Forum (SPIEF). He will be in Russia from 31 May to 2 June.
- At the beginning of his visit, the Prime Minister will go to Piskarovskoye Cemetery to pay homage to those who perished during the siege of Leningrad.
- On 1 June, Modi will hold detailed discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin to take forward the dialogue from the last summit in Goa in October 2016.
- On 2 June, he will be addressing the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) together with Putin.
With a spotlight on economic ties, both leaders will be interacting with CEOs from both the countries.
France
After Russia, the Prime Minister will head to France on the evening of 2 June.
- An official engagement with newly-elected President Emmauel Macron has been arranged for on 3 June,
- At the meet, the two leaders will discuss ways to strengthen Indo-France ties on issues of mutual interest.
