Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Thursday, 6 September, told ANI that if Pakistan chooses to end terrorism in their country, India will treat Pakistan “like Neeraj Chopra.”

The statement, delivered at an event organised by the army to felicitate Asian Games medalists, was a reference to Chopra’s gesture towards his Pakistani competitor, Arshad Nadeem at the Asian Games 2018.

During the Asian Games 18, a photo of Neeraj Chopra and his Pakistani competitor, Arshad Nadeem went viral, after the duo posed with their heads bowed down, following their victory. At the event, Chopra won a gold medal in the javelin throw, while Nadeem won bronze.

‘Pakistan Should Make the First Move’

General Rawat also said that situation in Kashmir has improved in comparisn to 2017, PTI reported. When asked about any ‘sportsmanship’ being displayed at the Indo-Pak border, Rawat claimed the first move should come from Pakistan.

They should make the first move, they should stop terrorism. If they stop terrorism, we will also be like Neeraj Chopra.

General Rawat also slammed media reports on the increasing number of young militants in Jammu and Kashmir, reported PTI. He added that with a month of their recruitment, young militants are either surrendering or getting killed.

I see in many places that the mothers have urged their sons to come back home and if this action continues, I am confident that we will be able to solve the problems of terrorism. Slowly the youngsters that have become radicalised will come home.
