Days after reports emerged that the Indian troops crossed the LoC on 25 December and killed three Pakistani soldiers and injured another, Major General Asif Ghafoor, the official spokesperson of the Pakistan Armed forces, categorically denied these claims during a Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press conference.
Ghafoor reportedly thanked the Pakistani media for being responsible by not reporting Indian Army's "false claims" of crossing the LoC and killing Pakistani soldiers.
He was quoted by leading Pakistani newspaper Dawn as saying:
India recently claimed that 10 of their soldiers came in Pakistan’s territory and killed Pakistani soldiers. But this is all false propaganda for their domestic audience to take the focus off the effective political struggle they are facing for Kashmir’s freedom.Asif Ghafoor, spokesperson of the Pakistan Armed forces
Ghafoor also reiterated his earlier statement that he posted on Twitter:
The alleged attack by the Indian army on Pakistani soldiers on 25 December was said to be in retaliation to Pakistani troops killing an Indian Army Major and three jawans in the Keri sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on 23 December.
According to sources quoted by PTI, a team of five Indian 'ghatak' commandos had crossed 200-300 metres into Rakh Chakhri, Rawalakot and carried out the attack.
Ghafoor also listed out the many steps that Pakistan is taking to fight terrorism and ensure peace in the region, after questions had been raised that it was not doing enough.
He reportedly said, "It is time that Afghanistan and the US do more for Pakistan."
