The Indian and Pakistani Army on Thursday, 1 February, traded fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, forcing the authorities to shut schools in nearby areas, reported IANS.
"The Pakistani army again violated ceasefire in Nowshera sector. Using small arms and automatics, they targeted Indian military and civilian facilities," Defence Ministry sources told IANS.
"Our troops retaliated strongly and effectively. No casualty or damage was reported from our side," the sources said.
According to ANI, the villages of Kampala, Pukherni, Lam, Anwas, Bhandar, Rattal, Basali and PB came under attack.
The authorities have ordered the closure of 71 schools close to the LoC in the area as a safety measure. Choudhary told ANI that all possible safety measures were being taken by the security forces.
On 26 January and 30 January as well, Pakistan had initiated unprovoked firing in Nowshera. On Wednesday, 31 January, Pakistan violated ceasefire along the LoC in Poonch district, reported ANI
According to PTI, on 30 January, Pakistani troops opened fire and lobbed mortars on forward and civilian areas along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, drawing retaliation from the Indian Army.
He said the heavy shelling targeted five villages in areas of Jhangar, Dhamaka and Kalal belts.
On 21 January, A 25-year-old Indian Army soldier Chandan Kumar Rai lost his life in ceasefire violation along the LoC in Mendhar sector in Poonch.
The Indian Army said that they retaliated strongly and effectively after Pakistan initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of mortars, small arms and automatics, reported ANI.
Rai was injured during retaliation and succumbed to his injuries at the military hospital here. He hailed from Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district and is survived by his father.
