St Xavier’s College in Mumbai is making news for all the wrong reasons. According to reports, the college has banned female students from wearing shorts at the college’s annual festival, ‘Malhar’ held from August 15-17.
This is not the first instance when a college has issued a dress code diktat to students . Earlier this year, Scottish College in Kolkata faced students’ ire after its attempts to introduce a dress code. This sparked outrage from students and social activists, forcing the college to retract its decision.
Mostly female students find themselves at the receiving end of such diktats. Many believe that imposing bans violate an individual’s right to wear clothes of his/her choice. What do you think?
