Umar Khaled ends his speech with the message that they will not return to their lives. The fight will continue.
Earlier in the day, actor Anupam Kher who was on campus for the screening of his film Buddha in a Traffic Jam was critical of JNU students who were supportive of Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khaled and Anirban Bhattacharya.
Umar Khaled hits out at the government and the RSS, while referring to the slogans that were allegedly raised on JNU campus.
The BJP and RSS were very upset that someone was raising anti-India statement at JNU on 9 February. I want to tell them that those weren’t our slogans. But they were upset that someone else was doing what they want to.Umar Khaled
‘Media Not Unbiased’
Khaled talks about media coverage. “I don’t think the media are acting independently. In many cases, you see that the media has already made up its mind. You’d think that the opinion is created after the investigation. But no.”
He said,
I was accused of being in the Jaish-e-Mohammed, every day there were new accusations, a media trial against me.
He also brought up his religion saying, “I used to think it is okay because I am not a practising Muslim. But what if I were? What if I were a practising Muslim?”
