In a bizarre case, a Kolkata resident dialled up the Flipkart helpline number after having received the wrong order. Little did the customer know that he would end up getting a direct gateway to the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in the form of a primary membership offer, NDTV reported.

The football lover on condition of anonymity told NDTV that he ordered two sets of headphones to watch late night football matches in silence. However, the package delivered by the e-retail giant contained only a bottle of oil.

The customer infuriated at the faulty order, called on to complain but was disconnected after one ring.

As soon as he was about to press the redial button, he got a text message saying “Welcome to BJP.” The SMS offered a “primary membership number” to get going with the membership process, NDTV report added.

Before finding the correct helpline number, the complainant shared the numbers with his friends and discovered that 1800 266 1001 was a BJP number.

“Use Oil or Throw it; Refund Guaranteed”: Flipkart

The shopping portal too, responded to the fan’s complaint.

Please use the oil sent to you accidentally. Or throw it away. We are sending you the headphones. Sadly, we have only one pair at the moment. We can only give that one. We will refund your money for the other set.

According to NDTV, in a statement, the e-commerce company said the number, which became unusable three years ago, was printed on tape used for packing and and apparently some of that packing tape was left, leading to the blunder.

Denying any link to the Flipkart package, Dilip Ghosh, the Bengal state BJP chief said:

The BJP number is on the website, on Facebook. Anyone can share it. You can also share it. That’s not our responsibility.
