Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) KP Singh claimed that common people have a right to kill miscreants trying to outrage the modesty of a woman, indulging in arson, or murder.
Singh claimed that citizens are not aware that they can take action when they come across violations of law. He was recently appointed as DGP after his predecessor Yashpal Singhal was removed in the wake of Jat stir.
Common citizens are not aware that this is not just the right which the law gives to policemen only. If the common man is a witness to someone insulting a woman or indulging in acts of arson by burning someone’s property or trying to kill a person then the law gives the right to the common man that he can take the life of the person indulging in such acts.KP Singh, Haryana DGP
Singh made these statements in presence of BJP MLA Prem Lata Singh during a convention about the role of police in Panchayati Raj in Haryana’s Jind.
Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 96 to 106 allows a person to use force while protecting their own or another person’s body and property when immediate aid from the state machinery is not available.
Some Jat leaders have renewed the threat to start the quota agitation after the Punjab and Haryana High Court put a stay on the Jat Reservation Bill.
DGP Singh has ensured that the Haryana Police will take strict action against trouble-makers this time.
Agitation is right of public but it is wrong when protesters damage the environment by cutting trees and cause damage to public and private propertyDGP KP Singh
