In the latest action plan submitted by the Delhi government to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), it said that there will be no exemptions in the odd-even scheme to be implemented by Delhi-NCR.
Delhi government’s initial action plan to exempt two-wheelers and women from the odd-even scheme citing safety issues was previously rejected by the NGT. The face-off between the Kejriwal government and the NGT has been going on since pollution levels in Delhi-NCR reached alarming levels leading to a health emergency in the region.
According to the action plan submitted by the Delhi government on Wednesday, 6 December, construction work in the city will be completely stopped once the pollution reaches ‘severe’ levels. Pollution causing industries will also remain shut. Entry of trucks in Delhi will also be stopped and burning of waste will also be banned.
Previously, the NGT had pulled up the Delhi government for not implementing any pollution control measures suggested by it by the Delhi government to tackle pollution. The Delhi government also faced flak for not introducing enough number of buses in the public transport system when it cited women safety as an issue in public transport.
The Aam Aadmi Party had called off the scheme that was to be implemented in November saying that it can’t compromise with women’s safety in the city.
As reported by NDTV, the NGT took a tough stand against the Delhi government’s implementation methods saying that no FIRs are filed and that the government only talks of prosecution slips.
