Two members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student-wing of the Indian National Congress, Rajasthan, were brutally beaten up by unknown assailants on Wednesday, 29 August.

The incident, which took place between 12 am-1 am on the Rajasthan University campus, came two days ahead of the upcoming student union elections which is scheduled for Friday, 31 August.

Along with Poonia and Singhaniya, a few other students were also beaten by the attackers. However, they suffered milder injuries.

Sources told The Quint that although the University campus had been surrounded by police forces ahead of the upcoming elections, the unidentified assailants had still managed to somehow enter the premises and carry out their attack. They added that the assailants, in all probability, did not belong to the University.
