The rumour mill has it that veteran journalist Rajdeep Sardesai is all set to make his political debut with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa. Sardesai was seen at an AAP rally in Goa, fuelling speculation that he will be the party’s Goa’s chief ministerial candidate for the 2017 state assembly elections.
However, the rumours – as rumours are wont to be – are baseless. Speaking to The Quint, sources from AAP Goa have denied the rumours, saying that Rajdeep was in the state to receive the Goan of the Year award. He was present at the AAP rally with his wife Sagarika Ghose, but sat with the rest of the media.
Sardesai was asked relentlessly whether he would join politics and he answered jokingly that he might. He has flatly denied to The Quint any rumours of his affiliation with the party.
The likes of actor and BJP member Anupam Kher have taken to Twitter to speculate.
Rajdeep, however, replied saying “No such luck.”
Tejas Mehta of NDTV provided further ‘proof’ that the rumours were baseless, and tweeted a picture of Rajdeep sitting with the rest of the media at the rally.
