It’s barely been days after a $1.8 billion loan scam emerged, allegedly perpetrated by Diamond tycoon Nirav Modi based on a complaint to the CBI by Punjab National Bank.
Social media, however, posed bigger questions, for instance, “Is Nirav Modi’s Aadhaar linked to his bank account?”
For those who didn’t follow what the scandal was about, a few quick caricatures made it much simpler to understand.
But the biggest question on social media, and probably the CBI’s plate, was how would they find Nirav Modi?
Modi fled India in January 2018, before the scandal was reported. So, many concerned citizens took to Twitter asking Nirav to “come back.”
While some took the chance to bash the ruling Modi government’s finance policies...
...others took a dig at what they claimed was the BJP government’s tendency to blame the Indian National Congress and the UPA government for scandals in the country.
And then there were those taking not-so-subtle digs at the numerous business tycoons who were in the spotlight in the past years.
While the CBI continues its hunt for the billionaire jewellery designer who is at the centre of the alleged $1.8 billion fraud, the memes, jokes, cartoons, and caricatures are sure to continue, with social media showing no inkling of letting up on the jokes.
