#GoodNews: An RJ Gets Mumbai to Fund a Blind and Homeless Student

Nikita Shukla was thrown out of her home when she insisted on studying instead of marrying.

It’s indeed a heart-warming story that makes us stop on our tracks and believe that if you hang on long enough, your dreams might just come true. And that the world is not completely devoid of kind people.

Nikita Shukla, a blind third-year law student, was thrown out of home when she insisted on continuing her studies instead of getting married. She survived with help from friends and just 20 dinners a month.

Visiting a RJ of a FM channel to collect a prize from a contest, Nikita shared her story with her, which the channel aired.

And this is what happened next:

When we run contests, we try and pick up as many calls as we can, yet many go unanswered, so for one to get through On Air, is a big deal.

When Nikita came to claim her prize at @radiocityindia, she requested to meet RJs (as listeners sometimes do)
So I met her a few weeks ago.

Nikita is completely blind. Something her parents were not very excited about and wanted to get her married right after high school.

When Nikita refused and insisted on studying further, she was asked to leave the house.
Father runs his own business btw.

Broke and without plan, Nikita bought a ticket to Mathura and was about to leave the city, when her friends convinced her to stay back.

Friends help Nikita secure a place in a hostel and continue studying to be a lawyer.
