A 33-year-old Nigerian national was found dead under ‘mysterious circumstances’ in his rented apartment in Greater Noida on Tuesday, 18 December, The Times of India reported.

Austin Osas was living with wife Geeta, an Indian woman he married in 2013, at Eldeco Society in Sector Omicron 2 Area of Dadri. Geeta had reportedly found Austin unconscious in their washroom and rushed him to Yatharth Hospital in Kasna. He was declared dead on arrival, a police officer investigating the case told the newspaper.

“We received a call on Dial 100 helpline around 3 pm from the wife of the deceased, who informed us that he was found unconscious in the bathroom. She had rushed him to Yatharth Hospital in Kasna, where he was declared brought dead,” Sanjeev Kumar, chowki in-charge at Ajaaypur in Dadri, told TOI.

Austin had reportedly been on a wheelchair since 2012. On the day of the incident, Austin had gone into the washroom to take a bath. However, when he didn’t come out for quite some time, Geeta gathered a few neighbours and managed to break into the washroom, where they found him lying unconscious on the floor, Kumar added.

Speaking to the newspaper, a spokesperson at Yatharth Hospital said Austin had been brought in around 1 pm and had been declared dead on arrival.

“The doctors have informed that rigor mortis had occurred to his body based on which they have suspected paralysis to be the reason for his death.”
The spokesperson told TOI

“He already had suffered a spinal injury and had also gone through spinal surgery in 2012, as informed by his family,” the spokesperson added.

While an autopsy has been conducted, police have not registered a case, as no official complain regarding the case has been lodged at the police station, the report added.
