Liquor Baron Vijay Mallya Loses Appeal in UK Court to Unfreeze Assets
A court in the United Kingdom rejected Indian tycoon Vijay Mallya’s appeal against freezing of his assets. Indian banks are looking to recover more than $1.55 billion from Mallya, who is currently based in London.
Judge Andrew Henshaw also allowed the registration of a 2017 judgment of the Indian Debt Recovery Tribunal, which if enforced, could allow Indian banks to attach and even sell Mallya’s assets in the UK.
Mehbooba Mufti to Convene All-Party Meet Tomorrow
Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti will convene an all-party meeting on Wednesday, 9 May, in Srinagar.
She will reportedly discuss the situation of Kashmir valley, which has led to the killing of 8 terrorists and a tourist over the last four days, reported ANI.
Collegium Recommends Names for Appointment of Permanent Judges in Allahabad HC
The Supreme Court collegium has recommended two names for appointment as permanent judges of the Allahabad High Court, reported PTI.
The collegium, comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra, and justices J Chelameswar and Ranjan Gogoi, had met on 4 May. It recommended two additional judges of the Allahabad High Court - justices Krishna Singh and Rajiv Lochan Mehrotra - for appointment as permanent judges of the high court.
Rahane to Lead Indian Cricket Team
Ajinkya Rahane will lead the Indian Cricket team in the test match against Afghanistan, that will strat on 14 June, said BCCI Acting Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary on Tuesday, 8 May.
