A 20-year-old Muslim man was killed in Jharkhand’s Jumla district after he was allegedly tied to a tree and brutally thrashed for being in a relationship with a Hindu woman, according to a Hindustan Times report.
Police has arrested three persons and an FIR was also filed against unnamed people.
The deceased – Mohammad Shalik – had gone to meet his lover, a Hindu woman from Soso village, in Gumla on Wednesday for the Ram Navami procession. Apprehensive at first, Shalik agreed to meet her and even dropped her home, the police said.
He was spotted by a few neighbours, who then tied him to a tree and thrashed him for hours, the woman informed police. He later died of his injuries.
“Though investigation is on, we were told by the villagers that the boy had been asked earlier not to meet the girl and never visit the village,” said Gumla Superintendent of Police Chandan Kumar Jha told HT.
The arrests were made on the basis of leads provided by the girl during police interrogation, the officer said.
All the arrested persons have been sent to jail.
