1. Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Mumbai Records Highest Voter Turnout In Three Decades
India’s financial capital recorded a moderate bump in turnout on Monday with a number of Bollywood actors and industry captains casting their vote from one of the six constituencies in the coastal city that recorded its best polling figures in 30 years.
The voting percentage stood at 55.11 at 6 pm, surpassing the average in 2014 of 51.59%, the previous highest. The city had recorded a turnout of 41.4% in 2009. The total number of electors in Mumbai this time was lower than the 2014 number by 259,857.

2. Fire At Big Bazaar In Matunga; No Casualties
A fire broke out in a Big Bazaar store in Matunga Road on Monday evening. The fire, coupled with an explosion, led to dense smoke inside the store. There were no casualties or injuries as the store was shut for half a day due to the elections.
The store, in New Era house on Mogul Lane, had been shut up to 5 p.m. and was about to re-open as the polling was coming to an end. “They opened the store and turned on the power supply. Within a few minutes, there was a fire,” said Milind Gadankush, senior police inspector, Mahim police station.

3. Major Churches In Mumbai Set For Security Audit After Sri Lanka Blasts
Major Churches in the financial capital, especially Mount Mary in Bandra and St Michael’s Church in Mahim that see substantial attendance even on weekdays by members of all communities, are set to undergo immediate security audits in the aftermath of the blasts in Sri Lanka. Following a meeting between the Mumbai Police and the Mumbai Archdiocese, recommendations will be handed out by the latter to all city churches to assess their security measures.

4. Versova-Bandra Sea Link: Juhu Fisherfolk To Pursue Case Against MSRDC
Members of the Juhu Morgaon Macchimar Vividh Karyakari Sahakari Sanstha (JMMVKSS), a group of local fishermen, have said they will pursue a contempt petition against Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
According to the JMMVKSS, the MSRDC has destroyed mangroves by constructing a casting yard within 50 metres of mangroves on Juhu beach. The Bombay high court (HC) will hear the matter on June 12.

5. Bombay High Court Upholds Conviction Of Man Who Raped Minor
The Bombay High Court recently upheld the conviction of a 40-year-old man from Haryana, who was accused of raping his friend’s minor daughter on several occasions. The court also said it was a fit case for enhancement of punishment — a trial court had sentenced the man to seven years in jail — as the accused had sexually assaulted the girl for more than two years.
