1. High Court Dismisses Plea Seeking Stay on 10% EWS Quota

The Bombay high court (HC) on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking a stay on the implementation of 10% quota for the economically weaker section (EWS) in the admissions to postgraduate (PG) medical courses in Maharashtra , saying all high courts had been restrained from hearing petitions pertaining to the issue by the Supreme Court (SC).

The petition, filed by Dr Angad Ranadive and four others who challenged the Constitution (103rd Amendment) Act, 2019 argued the implementation of this reservation to PG medical admissions in the state was contrary to the rules of the Maharashtra University Health Sciences (MUHS) Act.

2. First-Time Voters in City Give Sanjay Nirupam a To-Do List

Nearly 40 first-time voters gathered at an open-air cafe in Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri, on Tuesday to interact with Sanjay Nirupam, the Congress’ candidate from their constituency in the Lok Sabha elections.

The participants sat around Mr. Nirupam and spoke with him over a cup of coffee. During the course of the interaction, they raised a host of issues that affect them, including unemployment due to digitisation, the need for the government to take up skilling on a priority basis and the need for free WiFi in each area.

3. Bid for Nirav Modi’s Luxury Cars From Rs 2.38 Lakh to Rs 1.33 Crore

Luxury cars like the Rolls Royce Ghost and Porsche Panamera belonging to diamantaire Nirav Modi, but recently seized by Enforcement Directorate (ED), will go under the hammer at prices starting at Rs 1.33 crore and Rs 54.60 lakh respectively. The prices were revealed in a catalogue released by the ED.

The ED will hold an e-auction on April 25.

Thirteen cars, most of them high-end models, were seized by the ED after it charged Nirav Modi with money-laundering in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case.

4. Will Carry Conjoined Twins for Full Term, Woman Seeking Abortion Tells Bombay HC

A 22-year-old woman, who had recently approached the Bombay High Court, seeking to terminate her 30-week pregnancy as she is carrying conjoined twins with a shared heart and liver, on Wednesday told the court that she will carry the foetuses to term, as termination would risk her life.

The woman had approached the court when she was 28-weeks pregnant, informing that the obstetric report of JJ Hospital on March 18 had stated that she had conjoined twins with shared heart and liver.

5. Three Held for Duping Man of Rs 30,000

A 59-year-old civilian employee of the Indian Army was allegedly duped of Rs 30,000 by three men posing as police personnel.

The three accused told him that they had information of him having allegedly stolen an ATM card, after which they frisked him and took his debit card, said police. The trio then forced him to reveal the PIN and on the pretext of verifying it, they withdrew cash from his account and fled.
