2. No Plan to Use MNP’s FSI to Develop Dharavi: CM

A day after asserting in the state Assembly that no construction would be allowed at the Maharashtra Nature Park (MNP) in Mahim, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis clarified to Mirror on Friday that there is no plan to use the FSI of the green lung to develop Dharavi as is being feared by environmentalists, citizen groups, activists and town planners.

In a text message, Mirror had asked Fadnavis whether the main objective of including the MNP in Dharavi Redevelopment Plan (DRP) was to use its FSI for Dharavi. The reply from the chief minister was an emphatic “No”.

3. MMRC Gets Nod For Commercial Use Of Nariman Point Plot

After its attempts to commercially utilise Aarey plot failed due to protests from activists, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has something to rejoice. The state government, on March 21, gave its nod for commercial utilisation of land at Vidhan Bhavan station complex.

The Nariman Point plot housed offices of the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, Shiv Sena, Peasants and Workers Party, and many other offices of the state government.

4. Western Suburbs To Have No Power For 4 Hours On Sunday

The Dahisar-Andheri East metro line 7 work is all set to make you sweat for four long hours early on March 25. The western suburbs will have no power supply from 3 am to 7 am on Sunday, as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development (MMRDA) will work on increasing the height of the high-tension wires near Thakur Complex, which is coming in the way of the Metro.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the authority said, "There will be no electricity supply in the K-West, P-South, P-North, R-South, R-Central and H-West wards, which cover areas like Vile Parle, Juhu, Andheri, Versova, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivli and Charkop, from 3 am to 7 am on March 25. The MMRDA will raise the height of high-tension wires in front of AVON Plaza Society, Thakur Complex, Kandivali.”

5. Mumbai Woman Strangles Daughter Over Suspected Sexual Relations With Father

A 36-year-old woman from an upscale residential society in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, has been arrested on charges of killing her daughter after she got suspicious that the 16-year-old was involved in a sexual relationship with her father.

The Kharghar police said the crime took place on March 4, and that investigations are underway to determine the father’s role in the entire incident, including whether he had sexually assaulted his minor daughter. The father, a civil contractor by profession, has not been arrested so far.

A senior police officer said: “We are not certain if the woman’s suspicions were true. There may be some other reason behind the murder.”

6. 300 Kg Of Kenyan Stimulant Seized, 7 Foreigners Held

The Mumbai police have arrested seven foreign nationals and seized over 300 kg of Muguka, a plant-based stimulant produced in Kenya, at the airport.

This is only the second known case of seizure of Muguka in India, police said.

Muguka, also known as Khat or Meraa, is not banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, but the accused were booked under IPC sections related to possession of poisonous substances.

7. 2.6 Lakh People In Maharashtra Found To Have Symptoms Of Oral Cancer

Over 2.6 lakh people in the state were found to have symptoms of oral cancer in a recent screening, the Maharashtra government told the Legislative Assembly today.

In a written reply to a question, Health Minister Deepak Sawant said that 2.14 crore people in the state were screened for oral cancer in December 2017. "Of this, 2,62,431 people were found to have symptoms of oral cancer," the minister said.
