Peter Mukerjea, Indrani Granted Divorce by Court

A family court on Thursday granted Peter Mukerjea and Indrani divorce based on the petition filed by them in September last year.

“Today, the two were formally divorced after we submitted a compliance of the consent terms. The court accepted it and granted them a divorce,” said Edith Dey, one of the lawyers for the couple, who were married 17 years. Their divorce comes at a time when both of them face trial for their alleged involvement in the murder of Indrani’s daughter, Sheena Bora, in 2012.

CNG to Be Cheaper by ₹2.04 in Mumbai, PNG by ₹1.19 per Unit

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) announced that the prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) would be cut by ₹2.04 per kg and piped natural gas (PNG) by ₹1.19 per standard cubic metre (SCM), starting Friday.

According to a statement by the MGL, CNG will now cost ₹49.95 per kg, while PNG will cost ₹30.60 per SCM for the first slab and ₹36.20 per SCM for the second slab. The reduction is “consequent to the reduction in price of domestically-produced natural gas by Government of India,” reads the MGL statement.

Court Rejects Terror Accused’s Plea for Probe Under POCSO

A special court on Thursday rejected an application filed by an accused in a terror case seeking a probe under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after a witness had claimed that his one-year-old daughter was undressed and made to sit on a heated car bonnet by ATS officers. While rejecting the plea, the court told the lawyers that the plea cannot be considered at this stage.

The witness, who begun his deposition in the case in June and made the claim during cross-examination by defence lawyers in September, is yet to conclude his evidence.

4-Year-Old’s Rape: High Court Acquits 65-Year-Old Man in 2011 Case

The Bombay high court (HC) recently set aside the conviction of a 65-year-old watchman for raping a four-year-old girl in a school at Kalina in January 2011. Justice Sadhana Jadhav struck down the conviction of Tillam Singh after noticing that there was no evidence suggesting sexual assault on the child and medical evidence also did not support the allegation.

The judge noted that the doctor who examined the child did not notice any injury marks on the minor’s private parts and the investigation officer had in terms, admitted that she discovered that no incident of sexual assault had taken place.

Dismissed IB Official Accuses Seniors of Caste Harassment

A former official of the Intelligence Bureau has accused his seniors including a joint deputy director posted at the Bureau of Immigration in Mumbai of caste-based harassment leading to his dismissal from government service last week. J Viplav Babu, former assistant central intelligence officer (Grade II) who was posted at the immigration counters of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) since 2016, said that that being a Dalit and a whistleblower attracted the anger of his superiors.
