1. Mumbai: High Court Permits Metro III Tunnel Work Under Fire Temples To Continue

The much-anticipated judgment regarding the Metro tunnel work under Fire Temples did not pan out well for the Parsi community on Friday as The Bombay High Court gave the nod for the tunnel boring work as part of Metro III construction connecting Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ.

Chief Justice Naresh Patil, permitted the work to continue at the Anjuman and Wadiaji Atash Behrams, adding that certain conditions must be followed. Among the conditions, Patil said that the team of experts constituted by the High Court would be present at the site, the equipment to monitor the structural stability will be installed permanently and continuous monitoring of the water level in the wells will be done.

2. Two Fall To Death From Govandi Building

Two labourers were killed on Friday after falling from the eighth floor of an under-construction building here, a disaster control official said. The incident occurred when they were fitting window panes of the Shabari Park building, coming up opposite the RK Studios in Govandi suburb.

Suddenly they lost their balance and fell nearly 80 feet below, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said.

3. AIMIM to Approach HC for Muslim Quota in Jobs, Edu

CM Fadnavis promises to convene a meeting of Muslim MLAs soon

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has decided to approach the Bombay High Court to get reservations for Muslims in education and jobs.The earlier Congress-NCP government had provided 5 per cent reservation for Muslims, but this was stayed by the high court.

AIMIM’s Aurangabad MLA Imtiyaz Jaleel said on Friday, “AIMIM is not oppposed to reservation provided to the Maratha community...”

4. Explosion Kills Fireman in Line of Duty at Restaurant Near Mumbai

A 57-year-old leading fireman was killed while another was injured when an explosion ripped through a small eatery in Kalyan (West) on Thursday. Jagan Amle was part of the team of four firemen and died on the spot. Chief fire officer of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, Dilip Gund, said, “Amle always followed all safety measures. It was unfortunate that the explosion took place and he lost his life.” The Bazarpeth police station has registered a case of accidental death.

On Thursday, the fire department of KDMC received a call around 1.15am, reporting smoke from a small eatery in Khadakpada. A fire tender and four firemen reached Aaswad Chinese Center to douse the blaze around 1am.

5. Mahalaxmi Joins the Race for Mayor's Official Residence

Mahalaxmi could soon become the mayor's turf, with the BMC contemplating an 11,972-sqm plot near the racecourse as the future address of Mumbai's first citizen. The civic body came up with this Plan B a week after MNS chief Raj Thackeray raised objections to the original plan to convert the Shivaji Park Gymkhana into the mayoral residence.

The existing mayor's bungalow at Shivaji Park, Dadar, is soon to make way for the proposed Bal Thackeray memorial, for which the BMC has already given advanced possession to the Bal Thackeray Memorial Trust.

6. Kamala Mills: 9 Civic Officers Found Guilty After 11 Months

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has found nine officers guilty following a probe into the Kamala Mills fire on December 29, 2017, which killed 14 people. Commissioner Ajoy Mehta will decide on the quantum of punishment soon.

A day after the blaze at two restaurants in the Kamala Mills compound in Lower Parel, Mr. Mehta had suspended five civic officers. They are assistant divisional fire officer Sandip Shinde, designated officer Madhukar Shelar, junior engineer Dharmaraj Shinde, sub-engineer Dinesh Mahale, and medical health officer Satish Badgire.

7. Navi Mumbai Airport Likely to Miss Dec 2019 Deadline: Devendra Fadnavis

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis admitted on Friday that the target to see the first flight taking off from the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) by the end of 2019 might not be realised.

But contending that the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO) and the concessionaire were working on awar footing at the project site, Fadnavis said the government was on course to complete the land development work for the new airport by April, 2019.

Revising the project completion deadline, the chief minister said that one runway (3.7-kilometre) and a terminal building of the new airport would be ready by April, 2020.
