1. Stunted Growth Of Mangroves At Twin Sites

The state government’s efforts to increase the mangrove cover don’t seem to be bearing fruit.

In a disturbing discovery, Mumbai Mirror, which, along with experts on the subject, visited two spots where mangroves saplings were planted by the State Mangrove Cell in 2012-13, has found that very few plants have actually survived. While the survival rate at Charkop site is nil, hardly 5,000-7,000 saplings out of the 93,324 planted in Manori are alive now.

Reasons? Faulty planning, lack of research and unsuitable growth conditions for the trees.
