‘Party Destroyed by People Within’: Mulayam Slams SP-BSP Alliance

Yadav also urged party workers to approach him if they sought the ticket to contest the parliamentary polls.

Expressing displeasure over the recently formed alliance between Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday, 21 February, said that the party is being “destroyed” by people within.

Yadav’s statement was made during an interaction with media at the SP headquarters, where the former UP CM made clear that he was unhappy with Mayawati's BSP being given “half” of the seats in the alliance for Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

“Who is destroying the party? It’s the people within. Thrice we formed a strong government and thrice I became the chief minister. I am simply telling the truth and not talking politics.”

Yadav also urged party workers to approach him if they sought the ticket to contest the parliamentary polls as he suggested that he could “change” any decision taken by Akhilesh Singh Yadav.

“Now, tell me what is the basis for giving away half the seats. Now we have only half the seats left. Our party was stronger," Mulayam added.

On 13 February, the SP patriarch created a stir in Parliament after he openly declared that he would like to see Narendra Modi return as the prime minister for a second term.

“I want to congratulate the prime minister for trying to work with everyone and move along. What I want to say that may all the members win again, and you (Modi) become the PM again,” Yadav had said.

SP, BSP Announce Seat-Sharing in UP Ahead of LS Polls

Hours after Yadav’s statements, BSP-SP announced that the seat-sharing formula between the two parties.

It was announced that SP will contest on 37 seats while the BSP will fight on 38 seats in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
