A video of a mother elephant rescuing her calf who fell in a 20-feet deep pit with about five feet of water in Tamil Nadu's Sathyamangalam town has surfaced.
In the video, the mother elephant can be seen giving her calf a push, after which he manages to make it out.
Three animals in total had fallen into the pit when their herd was passing by the Aurur village in the southern state.
When the elephants trumpeted, the residents of the village informed the forest authorities, who reached the spot immediately, news agency PTI reported.
The forest officials dug the land around the pit with the help of earth movers, allowing the animals to climb out.
