When Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017 open in Hyderabad, he also launched ‘Mitra’ - an indigenous, Made in India robot.

The humanoid robot can help you with opening your bank accounts, entertain you at birthday parties, and play the song of your choice, said a BloomberQuint report.

Mitra has inbuilt applications to help individuals in customer interactions and has contextual knowledge to assist in places like hospitals, banks, airports, the husband-wife duo at Invento Robotics which built the robot said. They were speaking to BloombergQuint on the sidelines of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017.

The robot had walked up to Modi and Ivanka, who were requested to launch the summit logo by the flags of their respective countries on the display one after the other. The robot was programmed to welcome them with their names on pressing the flags.

It was Modi who was first requested to press Indian flag, but Ivanka also pressed the US flag simultaneously. The humanoid could not perform its function properly and the name of only Narendra Modi could be heard.

The 'Made in India' robot has been developed by a Bengaluru-based company Invento Robotics, founded by Balaji Vishwanathan.

Mitra is an ‘end-to-end’ India product. It provides contextual information to customers using a recommendations engine similar to what Facebook and Google use for their services.
Kaundinya Panyam, who oversees the company’s business development told The Indian Express.

According to The Indian Express report, ‘Mitra’ is going to work on facial recognition technology to identify customers. The company’s website also claims that the humanoid can become a photographer and a DJ and can live tweet from an event.
