Curfew was imposed in Malpura area in Rajasthan's Tonk district on Friday, 24 August, as fresh violence erupted a day after locals pelted stones at Kanwariyas.
At least 10 kanwariyas were reportedly injured on Thursday when some miscreants attacked them. The incident took place near a truck stand when the pilgrims were on their way to Malpura from Bisalpur Gokarneshwar temple, the police said.
"An unruly mob today gathered in the town and torched a shop. We dispersed them and curfew was imposed," Additional SP Goverdhan Sekaria said on Friday.
Members of the minority community had attacked the Kanwariyas while they were passing through a Muslim-dominated area in Malpura on Thursday, reported PTI.
The incident led to tension in the area and an angry mob torched a vehicle following which Section 144 of CrPC (prohibiting assembly of more than 4 people) , was imposed in the area.
The miscreants reportedly attacked the kanwariyas with stones, sticks and other weapons. The injured kanwariyas were admitted to the Malpura community health centre.
After Thursday's violence, superintendent of police Yogesh Dadhich reached Malpura and held discussions with other police and administration officers about the situation.
