A minor boy was thrashed by a group of boys in Delhi’s Burari area on suspicion of theft, ANI reported.
The incident took place while he was going back to his home from Janmashtami celebrations. A video of the incident was widely shared on social media.
According to The Times of India, the victim, identified as Aaditya Raj, was accompanied by a neighbour and his cousins. One of them allegedly plucked a leaf from a tree, which angered a person identified as Vinod who was drinking near the spot.
The victim’s brother, who was with him when they were returning back said, "Me and my brother were coming back from the temple and we were suddenly called by a group of people sitting in a car. Upon resisting, they caught hold of me and started beating me and my minor brother while accusing us of theft,” added the ANI report.
Aaditya’s cousin, Adarsh told the police that he tried running away from the spot but Vinod chased him down near Chandar Vihar colony. The main accused, Vinod, was later joined by two more people who had a stick with them, TOI reported.
To save Adarsh from being thrashed, Aaditya, his cousin Prince, and neighbour Sujal ran upto him. Following which, Aaditya was also beaten up.
Victim’s Uncle: Left Portion of His Body Paralysed
Victim’s uncle Azad Rai told TOI that the locals who had gathered around the spot tried to stop Vinod from beating the boys. They suggested that Vinod should call up the boys’ family but Vinod and his family members did not listen and “continued to hit Aaditya on the head with a stick.”
On hearing about the incident, Aaditya’s family reached the location but reportedly Vinod still did not stop. In the video, Aaditya can be seen continuously falling on the road and Vinod, dressed in a black kurta, is standing near him. The video also shows his brother trying to help him, added the TOI report.
The boy was later rescued and admitted to a hospital. Delhi police have registered a case under relevant sections including an attempt to murder and is investigating the incident, ANI reported.
Rai further said that the victim is in ICU and the “left portion of his body has suffered paralysis and he is still under critical condition. We are just hoping that he survives.”
