The MDH group on Sunday, 7 October, denied reports which claimed that the group’s owner and patriarch Mahashay Dharampal Gulati had passed away late Saturday evening at a Delhi hospital.
Speaking to The Quint, the group’s executive vice-president Rajendra Kumar rubbished these reports, stating that the 95-year-old CEO (his age was wrongly stated to be 99 in the reports) was “hale and hearty.”

Who is Dharampal Gulati?
Dharampal ‘King of Spices’ Gulati was born in 1923 in Pakistan’s Sialkot. In 1947, after Partition, Gulati’s family led by his father Mahashay Chunnilal Gulati moved to Delhi. In 1959, the MDH masala factory, also called Mahashay Di Hatti was opened in Delhi’s Kirti Nagar.
According to a 2017 report, Dharampal was named the highest-paid FMCG CEO. Gulati reportedly received formal education till class 5, after which he entered the family business.
