Slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “blackmailing”the public by being overly “emotional”, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati continued with her stinging criticism of the central government’s demonetisation policy.
“Isn’t PM Modi blackmailing the public by crying and getting emotional again and again?” she asked at a press conference in Delhi.
Furthermore, with the UP Assembly elections due early next year, she claimed that the BJP can only be threatened by the BSP in the polls.
“The Congress is on oxygen, they are not a threat. Neither is the Samajwadi Party,” she said.
Calling the situation in the country an “economic emergency”, she stated that the Modi government’s move is completely driven by vested political interests.
Repeatedly referring to Modi’s decision as “half-baked”, she said that it has caused inconvenience to 90 percent of the people.
It is a good thing that Modi has sacrificed his family for the welfare of the country, but that does not mean he can trouble its common people.Mayawati on demonetisation
The Opposition, led by the likes of Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee and Mayawati, has been up in arms against the ruling government ever since PM Modi announced its decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on November 8. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have not been able to function properly in the ongoing Winter Session due to constant disruptions over the issue.
Hitting back at Mayawati, BJP mockingly claimed that all the money BSP supremo Mayawati had collected by "selling" party tickets in elections have gone to waste with demonetisation and that the move has hit at the roots of politicians-bureaucrats nexus in "looting" public money.
It also rejected as "baseless" her allegation that the demonetisation decision was taken keeping its political interests in mind. The BJP, instead, claimed that she was merely levelling unfounded charges in desperation, knowing that she was staring at a "massive loss" in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
