Man Lynched On Suspicion of Being a Thief in Mumbai, Four Held

The accused tied Siddharth Solanki to a tree and allegedly beat him to death.

The Mumbai city police have arrested four persons for allegedly lynching a man named Siddharth Solanki suspecting him to be a thief on 9 October.

The four accused along with a few others suspected that the man had come to the Madh Island area to steal a bike, said reports.

They then tied Solanki to a tree in the area and allegedly beat him up severely, said the official attached to the Malwani police station.

Some locals informed about the incident to police who rushed to the spot and sent the man to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, he said.

The police later registered a case and based on the CCTV footage of the area, they arrested the four accused, the official said.

The accused were booked under IPC Sections 302 (murder) and 342 (wrongful confinement) and other relevant provisions, he added.
