Police has registered a murder case following the death of a 37-year-old man whose body was found with a bullet wound to the chest in his car in southeast Delhi's New Friends Colony area.

Mohammad Afzal's body was found in the driver's seat in his black Mahindra XUV by a passerby near the Holy Family Hospital on Okhla Road on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Afzal, a resident of Jamia Nagar.

While the case appeared to be that of suicide, we have registered a murder case since there were bullet injuries and there are no eyewitnesses in the case,” said a senior police officer.“No suicide note has been found from the car where the body was found. The autopsy has been carried out and we will get a report in the next couple of days,” he added.

The car's engine and air conditioning was on and the music was playing at full volume, said a senior police officer.

It is yet to be ascertained whether he committed suicide or wether he was murdered.

The car door was found unlocked and police has not ruled out the possibility of someone killing him.

Afzal’s family, however, claimed that even though he was upset about his shop being demolished, he could not have committed suicide. His brother told police that Afzal was looking for a new shop in the area and did not display any suicidal tendencies.

Police is scanning CCTV footage from the area to determine the sequence of events leading to Afzal's death.
