The Delhi police on Tuesday, 15 January, detained a man for questioning in connection to an anonymous email sent to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, threatening to kidnap his daughter, Hindustan Times reported.

Kejriwal on Wednesday, 9 January, received an anonymous mail which said, “We will kidnap your daughter. Do what you can to protect her,” according to NDTV.

The man was detained in Uttar Pradesh and is being brought to Delhi for interrogation, a senior police official said to the Hindustan Times.

The arrested is a graduate, preparing for the civil service examination. Investigation is underway by the cyber cell of Delhi police, the official said.

Kejriwal’s daughter Harshita works for a multinational company in Gurugram, according to the Hindustan Times.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Sunday, slammed the Delhi police over its failure to hold the culprits accountable. “The commission views this as an extremely serious matter where the family of the elected head of the state is being openly threatened and the police has failed to nab the culprits,” the notice sent by DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal read, according to ANI.

The Delhi Police immediately deployed a Personal Security officer (PSO) for Kejriwal’s daughter and the case was handed over to the cyber cell for investigation, reported ANI.

This is not the first time the AAP leader has been under attack. In November last year, a man had assaulted Kejriwal with chilli power inside the Delhi Secretariat.
