Vadodara police on Wednesday, 6 June, arrested a man from from Raipura Chowkdi in Ahmedabad, 11 years after he eloped with a minor.
According to a report in The Times of India, the police arrested Kamlesh Parmar, who had eloped with a minor who was 17 at the time.
Parmar (32) and the woman, now 29 years old, are still married.
The woman’s father had filed a complaint of kidnapping and abduction of a minor at the Vadodara taluka police station. The reports states that the police were unsuccessful in tracking down the couple. They had then issued an arrest warrant against Parmar under Section 70 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The two have an eight-year-old daughter and an 18-month-old son and they have been living in Ahmedabad since the last six years, the report adds.
Parmar, who was a casual labourer at Hinglot village, is now a marketing executive in Ahmedabad.
“The FIR was registered and the couple had not reached a settlement with the girl’s parents. As the court had also issued an arrest warrant, we had to arrest him as part of the procedure. We only recently received information about Parmar’s whereabouts,” a police official told The Times of India.
The police further stated that the woman refused to take a medical examination and was not ready to cooperate with them.
“She has continuously been saying that she does not want to go to her parents’ house and will only go wherever her husband is,” a police officer said.
