Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde on Monday said the engineering “degree” he obtained from an institute in Pune 1984 is not bogus.
A local news channel of Maharashtra, Mi Marathi, had reported that the institute Vinod Tawde obtained his Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics degree from, had no recognition until 2005.
In 2005, the institute had lost right to award degrees according to a High Court order.
Had I mentioned that I did a course from Mumbai University, Pune University or Shivaji University, that would have amounted to cheating. But I did not do such a thing.

According to Tawde, he was admitted himself to the course in 1980, foundation year of the institute, and was aware that the government or education authorities did not recognise the course.

The matter has come to light in the wake of Union Law Minister Jitendra Tomar and Water Supply and Sanitation Minister of Maharashtra, Babanrao Lonikar’s fake degree row.
Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, has demanded Tawde’s resignation over his “fake” degree.
