Four rape accused were paraded on the streets of Bhopal on 25 March by the local police, in a bid to shame them for the crime. As per a Times of India report, the accused were made to perform sit-ups on the road and were roughed up by the police personnel.
The men, accused of raping a 21-year-old student, were also slapped by passersby as they were paraded from the MP Nagar police station to Board Office Square-Jyoti Talkies and back.
The accused have been identified as Shailendra Singh, an MBA student from Misrod area, Dheeraj Rajput, 26, a resident of Samardha Misrod, Sonu Dangi, 21, a resident of Semra Kalan in Ashoka Garden and Chiman Rajput, 25, a resident of Samardha Misrod,
Bhopal (south) superintendent of police (South) Rahul Lodha told ANI: “All four involved [have been] arrested. One of the accused used to be her friend. He tried to contact her, invited her to meet her at some place to sort out issues. He then took her to his friend’s house and called other friends to the place, where she was raped”.
The four accused have been booked for gangrape and abduction, among other charges, SP Lodha was quoted as saying. The accused have been charged under Section 376, 376D, 365, 342, 506, 323 and 34 of IPC, the TOI report added.
