A suspected ISIS terrorist was killed in the wee hours of Wednesday, after an almost 12-hour long anti-terror operation carried out by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Lucknow’s Thakurganj area.

The slain terrorist has been identified as Saifullah. While speaking to India Today on Wednesday, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Daljit Chaudhary said the terrorist was a “hardened criminal”, who fired around 60 rounds of ammo on the commandos.

Inspector General ATS Aseem Arun confirmed that the slain terror suspect was an active member of the ISIS.

The slain terror suspect belongs to the Khurasan module of the ISIS and was an active member. But, whether he has been indoctrinated or not is a matter of investigation.

Suspects Detained In MP Train Blast Case

A team from the National Investigation Agency is currently in Lucknow to carry out investigations.

Raids were conducted in different cities of UP, including Etawah and Kanpur, after the police force received inputs from Telangana regarding the terror suspects involved in the Bhopal-Ujjain train blast on Tuesday.

Three people were apprehended from Kanpur and nearby areas on Wednesday morning, UP Director General of Police Javeed Ahmad said.

Three men, Imran, Faisal and Danish, were named suspects in the Bhopal-Ujjain train blast incident. However, the father of the accused dismissed the allegations. He told ANI:

The accusations are false. Faisal took care of a shop and Imran is married and has a daughter. Danish left home as I scolded him for not working.

Another suspect Fakhre Alam, alias Rishu, was arrested from Etawah, UP late on Tuesday night.

“Wanted To Capture Saifullah Alive”

Speaking to the media after the anti-terror operation was over, Inspector General ATS Aseem Arun said:

Efforts were made to catch the suspected terrorist (identified as Saifullah) alive, but unfortunately this did not materialise. We fired tear gas shells and chilly bombs, so that he comes out. But, he did not come out.

The ATS commandos then stormed inside the house after issuing a warning to the terrorist who then shot at them. This was then appropriately retaliated by the ATS commandos, informed Arun.

The two rooms were thoroughly searched, and the person identified as Saifullah was found dead. “After opening the doors of the house (where the terrorist was holed up), the force went inside and found the suspect dead along with the weapons,” ADG Chaudhary said.

The commandos also saw a wire wrapped around the stomach of the terror suspect, Arun said.

We suspect that it could possibly be an explosive. Hence, the Bomb Disposal Squad has been called to clear the room first.

Earlier, it was being said that there were two terrorists holed up inside the house.
