1.Bhima Koregaon Protest: Maharashtra CM Assures Judicial Inquiry
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that his government will seek a judicial inquiry into the violence at Bhima Koregaon, which left one person dead and many more injured. Fadnavis also said a CID inquiry will be carried out and promised compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the deceased’s family.
Stone-pelting and violent clashes had marred an event to mark the 200th anniversary of the Bhima Koregaon battle near Pune. In the battle that took place in 1818, the British Army comprising Dalits had defeated upper-caste Peshwas.
Local pro-Dalit groups called for protests on 2 January against the violence, at Bhima Koregaon, Aurangabad, and other parts of Maharashtra. Violence was reported from Solapur and Mumbai’s suburbs on 2 January. ANI said that Mumbai’s local train service between Chembur and Govandi was affected because of the protests.

2. 6 Killed in Haryana’s Palwal, Cops Nab ‘Mentally Weak’ Ex-Army Man
Haryana’s Palwal witnessed a horrific incident early on Tuesday morning, when a man went on a murdering spree and killed six people using an iron rod. The crime took place within 100 metres of the police station early on Tuesday and was recorded in a CCTV camera that led to his arrest.
The accused, identified as Naresh Dhankar, is an ex-Army man who appeared to be mentally weak, as per media reports.
Naresh Dhankar served as a lieutenant in the Army and left under Medical Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS)

3. Pakistan Lodges Protest With US Embassy After Trump Says ‘No More’
US President Donald Trump’s first tweet of 2018 has caused ripples in international diplomatic circles, especially on the Twitter timelines of Pakistan government officials.
In his tweet, the US President slammed Pakistan as a ‘safe haven’ for terrorists and said that the “United States has foolishly given more than 33 billion dollars in aid (to Pakistan) over the last 15 years.”
In response to Trump’s tweet, Pakistan on 1 January lodged its protest against the US embassy and summoned US Ambassador David Hale, reported ANI, quoting Pakistan media.

4. Years Go by, but the Bizzare Statements of Politicians Don't End
A BJP MLA in Rajasthan on 1 January courted controversy by alleging that Muslims were bearing more children with an aim to outnumber Hindus and take control of the country by 2030.
The remarks by Banwari Lal Singhal, an MLA from Alwar, in a Facebook post come ahead of a bypoll to the Alwar parliamentary seat on 29 January.
“Muslims were giving birth to 12-14 children... while Hindus restrict the number to one or two. The way the Muslim population is increasing, the existence of Hindus is in danger. It is a well-planned conspiracy to have a Muslim in the chair of president, prime minister and chief ministers. Hindus will become secondary citizens if Muslims become lawmakers,” he said.
Another BJP MP, Nepal Singh, when asked about the recent attacks on CRPF jawans in J&K, said that “these things happen.” He added that being in the army, soldiers are bound to die and that there isn’t a single country where soldiers don’t die
