1. Let It Be Invincible India, Steadfast BJP: Narendra Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the final day of the BJP’s national executive, giving the party a new slogan for the upcoming polls in four States and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, namely, Ajeya Bharat, Atal BJP (invincible India, steadfast BJP) even as party chief Amit Shah claimed a reign of 50 years for the party, if it pulls off victory in 2019.
Briefing the media after Modi’s address, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that he had launched an aggressive attack on the Opposition, claiming that his government had never been criticised on facts, only on falsehoods and misrepresentation.

2. Bharat Bandh: Opposition to Protest Rising Petrol, Diesel Prices Today
The Congress said on Sunday, 9 September, that petrol and diesel should be brought under the ambit of Goods and Services Tax, as it claimed the support of about 20 political parties for a nationwide protest on Monday against rising fuel prices.
Petrol was selling in Delhi on Sunday at a record price of Rs 80.50 per litre, while diesel rose 10 paise to Rs 72.61 per litre amid a surge in rates over the past month that has increased pressure on the government to find a solution for relief to consumers. The Congress had called a ‘Bharat Bandh’ on September 10 in protest, saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government had “profited from the fuel loot”.
“Congress party has called for a nationwide ‘Bharat Bandh’ against the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices and the drop in rupee’s value against US dollar. The bandh will be violence-free. We request all the businessmen to support us in this,” Congress leader Ajay Maken said on Sunday.

3. TN Cabinet Recommends Release of Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case Convicts
A meeting of the Tamil Nadu Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, on Sunday evening recommended to Governor Banwarilal Purohit that all seven life convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case be released under Article 161 of the Constitution.
The decision followed the Supreme Court’s observation last week that the Governor shall be at liberty to decide on the remission application of Perarivalan, one of the convicts, “as deemed fit.” The convicts — Nalini, T Suthendraraja alias Santhan, Sriharan alias Murugan (Nalini’s husband), AG Perarivalan alias Arivu, Robert Payas, S Jayakumar alias Jayakumaran, and Ravichandran alias Ravi — have been in jail for over 27 years. Santhan, Murugan, Payas and Jayakumar are Sri Lankan Tamils.

4. Farooq Abdullah Trying to Outsmart PDP by Appearing to Side with Separatists: J&K BJP
The Jammu and Kashmir BJP said on Sunday that National Conference president Farooq Abdullah tried to “outsmart” the PDP by appearing to side with separatists with his threat to boycott assembly and parliamentary polls.
It claimed Abdullah was trying “all tricks” to fill the political void created by the PDP in the Valley after it had formed a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir. The coalition collapsed in June, resulting in the imposition of Governor’s rule in the state.
The comments from BJP state spokesperson Anil Gupta came in response to Abdullah’s threat yesterday that the NC may boycott the assembly and Lok Sabha polls if the Centre does not take effective steps to protect Article 35A.

5. Kerala Police Chief Sabotaging Probe, Will Move High Court, Say Angry Nuns
A day after hitting the streets seeking justice for a nun who was allegedly raped by Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mullakal, the group of agitating nuns on Sunday alleged Kerala director general of police (DGP) Loknath Behra was sabotaging the ongoing inquiry and said they will move the court.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) said it directed the DGP to file a case against law-maker P C George for portraying the victim in bad light by terming her a prostitute.
Support swelled to five nuns of Missionaries of Jesus Congregation as many priests, politicians, activists and a retired judge visited them at dharna site and decried the police inaction. Nuns said they have much hope from the judiciary and will move the high court on Monday. Marxist veteran V S Achuthanandan and Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member Brinda Karat also pledged their support.

6. Ram Temple Will Be Built as ‘SC Is Ours,’ Says UP Minister
A Cabinet Minister in the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has courted controversy by claiming on camera that a Ram temple would be constructed in Ayodhya as the “Supreme Court is ours.”
Interacting with journalists at Bahraich on Saturday, Mukut Bihari Verma expressed confidence that the temple would be built at the disputed site as the judiciary, as well as the executive and the legislature, was “ours.” But the MLA from Kaiserganj, who holds the cooperative portfolio in the Yogi Adityanath government, did not specify what he meant by “ours.”
He made the remarks when asked by journalists about the BJP’s long-standing promise of building a Ram temple. While the “BJP came [to power] on the issue of development, the Ram Mandir is its revered goal.”

7. Sohrabuddin Case: Bombay HC Verdict Discharge of Cops Likely Today
The Bombay High Court is likely to pronounce on Monday its verdict on applications challenging the discharge of the accused in the 2005-2006 encounter case of suspected gangster Sohrabuddin Shaikh, his wife Kausar Bi and their aide, Tulsiram Prajapati.
The six applications include three filed by Sohrabuddin’s brother Rubabuddin, challenging the discharge of former Gujarat DIG D G Vanzara and IPS officers Dinesh M N and Rajkumar Pandiyan; two others filed by the CBI challenging the discharge of Rajasthan Police constable Dalpat Singh Rathod and Gujarat Police officer N K Amin; and one filed by Gujarat IPS officer Vipul Aggarwal challenging his discharge orders rejected by the trial court.
Justice A M Badar, who began hearing all the six applications from July 4, reserved the judgment in August.

8. Serena Williams Fined Total of $17,000 for Three Violations at US Open
Serena Williams has been fined a total of $17,000 for three code violations during the US Open final.
The tournament referee’s office Sunday docked Williams $10,000 for “verbal abuse” of chair umpire Carlos Ramos, $4,000 for being warned for coaching, and $3,000 for breaking her racket.
The money comes out of her prize money of $1.85 million as the runner-up. Williams lost to Naomi Osaka in Saturday’s final.

9. Jadeja Proves His Worth with an Enterprising Unbeaten 86
When he got to his fifty on Sunday, Ravindra Jadeja dusted his bat off before performing his usual celebration, where he brandishes the thing like a burnished sword. He hadn’t been playing much cricket, he seemed to be pointing out. There should be no cobwebs on his blade for a while now.
On the third day of the fifth Test, Jadeja produced a fine counter-attacking innings, slamming an unbeaten 86 to dig India out of a hole. He and G. Hanuma Vihari, who scored a half-century on debut, added 77 runs for the seventh wicket as the visitors inched their way back into the game.
India was eventually bowled out for 292, handing England a relatively minor lead of 40. At tea, the home side was 20 without loss in the second innings, ahead by 60.
