1. Clashes in WB Over ‘Cut Money’, 9 Held

Tension prevailed in Sahapur village of Birbhum district in West Bengal on Wednesday, 10 July, after a clash erupted between BJP and TMC supporters over the issue of ‘cut money’. Nine people have been arrested in this connection.

Police said the clash was reported from Sahapur village under Sadaipur police station area, where people from both the groups hurled bombs and stones at each other. Police have increased its vigilance in the area.

“People from both the parties threw crude bombs at each other, and even targeted police. Nine people have been arrested,” said SP Birbhum Shyam Singh.

2. Constable Shot Dead by Undertrial Near Danapur Court in Escape Bid

An undertrial prisoner allegedlyshot a police constable dead outside the Danapur civil court premises in the state capital on Wednesday evening, 10 July, while trying to escape. This is second attempt by undertrials to escape in last three days.

The incident occurred around 4:30 pm when the prisoner, identified as Mohammad Meraz Imam alias Rinku, along with three others, was being taken to the Beur Central jail from the court lock-up by the police.

They were being taken to the prisoner van parked in court premises when Meraz started firing at constable Prabhakar Raj, who was unarmed. A bullet hit Prabhakar in the head and he fell on the ground.

3. App-Based Cab Driver ‘Harasses’ Bengali Actor, Arrested

A 25-year-old leading Bengali actor was allegedly harassed by a driver of an app-based cab while she was on her way to shooting on Wednesday, 10 July. The actress shared her ordeal on a Facebook post. Police later arrested the accused driver on the basis of her complaint.

“The complainant alleged that she had booked a Uber cab at 08:15 am on Wednesday. The driver picked her up from near her residence. On the way to the destination, the Uber driver misbehaved with her and outraged her modesty. He also pulled her out of the car after canceling the trip,” said a senior police official.

4. Man Kills Lover’s Husband, Dresses Clues to Mislead

Gurugram Police on Tuesday, 9 July, arrested a man for allegedly murdering a grocery shop owner and dumping his body at a railway track in IMT-Manesar. Police said probe revealed that the accused allegedly had an extra marital affair with the victim’s wife and conspired to kill him.

The victim was identified by his first name as Satyanarayan, and he ran a grocery shop in Kasan village of Manesar. According to the police, he had gone out with some friends on 7 July but when he did not return home, his family filed a missing person’s complaint.

IMT-Manesar station house officer Satbir said the complaint was filed on 8 July, following which the police started investigation into the matter.

5. Two Held in Mumbai for Duping Senior Citizen of Rs 9.5 Lakh in Debit Card Fraud

Two persons were arrested for allegedly duping a Dahisar resident of Rs 9.5 lakh. Police said the accused posed as bank officials and tricked the 60-year-old man into revealing his 16-digit debit card number and one-time password to withdraw the amount in 44 transactions.

According to police, the complainant Pachuram Yadav received a call from the fraudsters on November 16, 2018. “The accused duped Yadav into believing that his card is due to be blocked by the bank, and said that to renew the card he must tell them his 16-digit number card and share the OTP generated on his phone,” an officer said. Police said after Yadav revealed the card and OTP details, the fraudsters withdrew Rs 9.5 lakh from his account.

6. UP GST Officials Detect Rs 3 Cr Tax Fraud by Hapur Resident in Aligarh

GST officials in Uttar Pradesh (UP) have unearthed an alleged tax fraud of nearly Rs 3 crore and detected fake invoices worth Rs 16 crore by an iron scrap dealer, who registered a fake firm M/s Goyal Enterprises, in Aligarh. However, the proprietor of the firm hails from Hapur district.

Jugnu Goyal (36) generated fake invoices of about Rs 16 crore and claimed Input Tax Credit (ITC) of about Rs 3 crore in financial year 2018-19. Around 8 to 10 taxpayers from Mumbai, Ghaziabad, Delhi and Haryana were involved in this racket.

7. Drunk 34-Year-Old Assaults Locals in Deonar With Metal Rod, Arrested

A 34-year-old man has been arrested by the Deonar police for assaulting locals and damaging shops while in an inebriated state on Monday night, 8 July.

The accused, Aspak Qureshi assaulted two persons using an iron pipe and damaged three shops in Dr Zakir Hussain Nagar at 9.30 pm.

According to the Deonar police, the complainant in the case, Abrar Shaikh, 34, was hit on his leg, after which Qureshi threatened his father who was sitting in his shop. Qureshi, who also lives in the locality, then went on to break the glass jars in the shop.

8. Kolkata Police ASI Held for Robbing Gold Trader

An assistant subinspector of Kolkata Police and two others were arrested on Tuesday, 9 July, on charges of robbing a gold trader of 50g gold, ornaments and Rs 1 lakh in cash from near the Sealdah station last Thursday.

After robbing the merchant, ASI Ashish Chandra, his associate Balai and driver Nepal Chandra Dhar dumped him on Belgharia Expressway. The trader, identified as Bablu, lodged a complaint at the Muchipara police station.

9. 30-Yr-Old Man Killed for ‘Bullying’, 3 Youths Held

Three youths were arrested for murdering a 30-year-old man in south Delhi’s Tigri camp on Tuesday night, 9 July. The trio murdered Nishant Sharma alias Bidi as he used to bully them constantly.

Police said that at 9.40 pm unidentified men fired upon Sharma outside his house. Sharma was shot in the head from close range and fell on the street. He was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The body was handed over to his family members following an autopsy.

Later, Sharma’s brother Niraj told cops that three youths came on a motorcycle and stopped Sharma. Two of them got down from the bike and fired at Sharma.
