1. SSC Paper Leak: Two Tuition Teachers Sent to Police Custody

A magistrate court on Friday remanded the two tuition teachers arrested by the Sakinaka police for allegedly leaking the Information Communication Technology (ICT) paper of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam in police custody till 27 March.

Search is on to trace the third accused.

The police learnt that Firoz, a private tuition teacher at Sakinaka, got the question paper from another person who had got it from one Muzzamil Kazi, 27, also a private tuition teacher in Mira Road.

The police then traced Kazi and arrested him. They are on the lookout for a third accused who forms a link between Kazi and Ansari. The police are also trying to find out the beneficiaries of the paper leak and if the accused collected money from the students.

The cops have cell phones of all the accused and will be sending it to the forensic laboratory. Police inspector, crime, Sunil Mane said, “The two tutors and the four minors were booked under sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and Other Specified Examinations Act, 1982, as well as section 66(D) of Information Technology Act.”

2. Eight Charged in LeT Attack on Police

The police on Friday filed a chargesheet against eight people, including an Uttar Pradesh resident, for colluding in the Lashkar-e-Taiba attack on the police in June 2017, which left six policemen dead.

“Based on the disclosures of UP resident Sandeep Kumar Sharma, an accused in the case, who was arrested from an encounter site on 1 July, 2017 where two militants were killed, the investigators cracked the case,” said the police.

Sharma, son of Ram Kumar, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, faces charges under Sections 302, 397, 326, 427, 120-B RPC, 7/27 Arms Act 16,18, 20 and 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The other accused were identified as Mohammad Ashraf Wani alias Molvi of Brenti Dailgam, Khurshid Ahmad Ganie of Brenti Dailgam, Mehraj-ud-Din Bangroo alias Asif of Narparistan, Sahir Ahmad Makroo of Arwani Bijbehara, Zeenat-ul-Islam alias Zeeshan of Sugan Shopian, Bashir Ahmad Wani alias Lashkari of Soaf Shali Kokernag and Abu Maz, a foreign terrorist from Pakistan.

Wani and Maz were killed in an encounter last year.

3. Mother Kills Daughter for Having Affair with Father

A 16-year-old girl from Kharghar who was allegedly killed by her mother suspecting a sexual relationship with her father.

The girl was writing her exams. She wrote the Marathi language paper on 3 March, a day before she was strangled to death with a dupatta, the police said. The incident came to light after a post-mortem report revealed that the girl was strangled. The couple has three other children.

Police said they have not found any evidence to prove that the 39-year-old father, a civil contractor, had a sexual relationship with the girl.

The police arrested the 36-year-old mother on Wednesday. She was remanded in police custody till 27 March.

According to the police, the mother strangled the girl when no one else was at home on 4 March. She called her husband to inform that the girl was not well. On reaching home, the husband found her dead. Some of their neighbours informed the police about the incident.

“I had seen red marks on the girl’s neck and found something amiss in the incident. However, owing to lack of concrete evidence, we had to keep quiet at the time,” said Dilip Kale, senior inspector of Kharghar police station.

After conducting post-mortem, the police handed over the body and the parents took it to their native place for the final rites. The post-mortem report later revealed that the girl was strangled to death.

4. Four Arrested for Killing 70-Year-Old Woman

Three brothers along with another person have been arrested for killing their 70-year-old grandaunt in a village in UP, police said.

"Three brothers and a person, all residents of Nari Semari village, were arrested and a .315 bore pistol used in the murder and a live cartridge were seized," Superintendent of Police (SP), Rural, Aditya Kumar Shukla said.

The woman was shot dead on 9 March night and her brother Tahku Lal had lodged a complaint against five people, but all of them named by the complainant were not the assailants, he said.

The woman was shot by her brother's sons – Vijai, Babua and Jitendar, and another person Raghubir, the SP said.

They have been sent to jail.

5. Teen Shot 10 Times at Sonepat Village School Playground, Dies on Spot

An 18-year-old boy was shot dead at a government school in Sonepat district by the same men who murdered his elder brother five months ago, police said on Friday.

Rajesh Singh of Madina village was waiting at the playground of Government Senior Secondary School for Girls for his sister who was writing her Class-10 board exam on Thursday afternoon when four men came in a white sedan and opened fire at Rajesh, said police.

He was shot 10 times and died on the spot. Rajesh’s friend Saavan Kumar, who was sitting beside him, also suffered a bullet shot in his stomach. He was rushed to a hospital where his condition is stated to be stable, said police.

Though police was deployed outside the school due to the board exams, it failed to arrest the assailants. Sub-inspector Subhash Chander, who on duty, said he heard gunshots and rushed to playground to find Rajesh dead and his friend injured. He also saw the assailants leaving in a car, but could not stop them.

6. UP Woman Raped by Husband, FIR Registered on Court's Order

The UP police have registered a case on a court's order against a man for allegedly raping his wife.

The case was registered yesterday on the court's order. The woman has alleged that she was raped by her husband on 20 October, 2017, police said.

The woman alleged that despite her lodging a complaint and giving a copy of the same to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) no action was taken.

The case was registered only after the court's intervention, she said.

The police said that the matter was being investigated.

7. Gang Kingpin’s Cousin Held After Exchange of Fire

The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested a gangster involved in abduction, kidnapping for ransom, and MCOCA-related cases. According to police, Asif, who was arrested after a brief exchange of fire, is associated with the Trans-Yamuna criminal gangs and is the cousin of Irfan alias Chhainu, a gang leader.

The Chhainu gang has been locked in a fierce fight in northeast Delhi with the Nasir gang. Police said Asif is the sixth arrest in the case, after a series of crackdowns against gang members.

Asif, who has evaded arrest since 2009, was arrested from Tahirpur Thursday night.

His arrest came following an exchange of fire between him and a special cell team of Southern Range, led by inspector Shiv Kumar under the supervision of ACP Attar Singh.

8. Kerala Man Stabs Daughter to Death Day Before Her Inter-Caste Wedding

A 21-year-old woman belonging to the Ezhava caste was stabbed to death allegedly by her father on Thursday in Malappuram district of north Kerala ahead of her wedding to a man from a Dalit community, police said on Friday.

According to the police, Athira had been dating Brijesh and though their family members strongly opposed their relationship, they finally came around.

Athira’s father, who was inebriated, got into an argument with her as the wedding preparations, to be held on Friday, were in full swing and attacked her. She ran into a neighbour’s house for help but he chased her and stabbed her with a kitchen knife, police said.

Athira, a lab assistant at Manjeri Medical College Hospital, suffered a deep wound on her chest and died on the spot. After the incident, the father tried to escape but locals apprehended him and handed him over to the police.

9. CBI Arrests TN Advocate General in Bribery Case

The CBI arrested Tamil Nadu's Advocate General Arun Goyal in an alleged bribery case, official said on Friday.

The agency also arrested Goyal's Senior Accounts Officer Gajendran in connection with the case, they said.

It is alleged that Goyal had demanded Rs 5 lakh from PWD officer Shivalingam to post him as divisional accountant, they said. Shivalingam, along with middleman L Raja, allegedly handed over the bribe amount to Gajendran.

A CBI team recovered a part of the bribe amount from Gajendran during a search, they said.

During questioning, Gajendran told the CBI that he gave the remaining amount to Goyal, who was also taken into custody, they said.

The officials said Shivalingam and Raja were also arrested in the case.
