1. Two Teens Go on Mobile Phone Snatching Spree in Delhi
Delhi Police on Thursday, 13 December, said they had arrested two persons last week who allegedly went on a snatching spree on a motorcycle and robbed people of 11 mobile phones in five hours. They allegedly covered nearly 70km during the crime spree.
The case reportedly blew the lid off a complex operation that involved meticulous planning, protocol on trading stolen goods and contingency plans if the snatchers were caught.
The suspects, who police identified as 19-year-old Arman and 18-year-old Mahtab, were on a motorcycle they had allegedly taken on rent from a gang that catered only to snatchers.
“They paid a rent of Rs 5,000 for six hours,” said Rajiv Ranjan, additional commissioner of police (crime branch).

2. Snatchers Kill Youth, Place Body on Tracks
In September, the family of 20-year-old Samad was excited. Samad had received a call for a job interview in Bareilly, UP.
On 16 September, as he left home, with dreams for the future, his family wished him luck and asked him to come back in two days. But fate had other plans.
Samad boarded a train to Bareilly from Shahdara station. He stood near the door. The train slowed down as it approached Vivek Vihar station. Samad then took out his phone to call up his sister to tell her that he had safely boarded. But just then, a boy leapt at him and snatched his phone.
Before Samad could react, the boy along with other accomplices disappeared into the fields. Samad borrowed a co-passenger’s phone and informed his sister about the incident. Even though his family members asked him to come back home and not worry, Samad was furious as the phone had important numbers and photos that he had not saved elsewhere. He decided to play cop.

3. TMC Leader Shot Dead in Purulia
A Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead at point blank range in Adra area of Purulia on Friday, 14 December, a day after three people were killed in a shootout in Jaynagar, said police sources.
The incident occurred at around 11 am, when Hamid Ansari (44) was waiting on his bike at a level crossing near Adra railway station, said police. Unidentified assailants shot him multiple times and fled the spot before bystanders could raise the alarm.
“…he had bullet injuries on his head, face and other parts of his body,” said a police officer.
Ansari was then rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared brought dead. His body was sent for autopsy, and police initiated a murder case.

4. Three Arrested for Stealing ₹19 Lakh From Pharmacy
Three persons have been arrested for allegedly fleeing with a locker containing over ₹19 lakh from a pharmacy in central Delhi’s Paharganj in the early hours of November 27, the police said on Thursday, 13 December.
DCP (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said that the accused were identified as Nurul Hasan (19), Salman (20) and Raman Bhatia (37). Raman works as a delivery boy with a pharmacy company and had delivered medicines at the pharmacy where the accused committed the burglary. The police received a complaint from owner of the pharmacy, Mrinal Shekhar, about the incident.
CCTV footage of the spot was scanned. With the help of technical and local intelligence, the police zeroed in on Nurul on Wednesday after which he was arrested. At his instance, Raman and Salman were arrested from Shahdara’s Bhola Nath Nagar.

5. Not Allowed to Get Down From Rear Door, Two Men Stab Bus Driver in Delhi
Police said they arrested a man on Thursday, 13 December, in connection with a stabbing incident in east Delhi’s Shahdara area two days ago. During the incident, the man and his accomplice allegedly attacked a 44-year-old driver of a cluster bus after they were not allowed to alight from the rear door of the vehicle.
The driver is out of danger, police said. The attack allegedly happened near a bus depot in the area.
The driver Chand, identified only by his first name, said he was on the last trip of the day from Anand Vihar to Seemapuri depot.
”There were 20-22 passengers in the bus, all destined for Seemapuri. The attack happened around 10.15 pm just outside the depot,” said Chand. He said the passengers included the two young men who asked him to open the rear door of the bus and let them out.

6. Man Wanted in 30 Cases Held for Road-Rage Murder
A gangster wanted in three dozen cases of snatching and robbery across Delhi and UP for a decade was arrested for the road rage incident outside a department store in Mayur Vihar in which a 21-year-old biker was killed.
The criminal, Sidhant Verma, is the son of a north Delhi jeweller. His father owned a jewellery story at Azad Market, which he took over in 2005.
He employed a few youths to snatch gold jewellery from women, which he would recast into new ornaments and sell. He made some money this way and even became the secretary of the area market association in 2007. Then he met a customer named Avni and fell in love with her. They married in 2008 and shifted to Ghaziabad. But that year, Verma got arrested. After that he went under the radar.

7. FIR Lodged Against Man for ‘Producing Doctored Evidence’ Against Yogi Adityanath
Following a local court order, Gorakhpur police on Friday, 14 December, lodged an FIR against Parvez Parvaz for allegedly “producing a doctored video as evidence” in a 2007 hate speech case against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Parvaz had filed a petition in 2008 against the then Gorakhpur MP Adityanath and four others, accusing them of delivering hate speech and allegedly inciting communal violence in the region after a clash during Muharram procession. “An FIR has been lodged at the Cantonment Police Station in Gorakhpur late Friday evening following the court’s order,” Vinay Kumar Singh, additional SP, said.
Apart from Adityanath, other accused in the case include Union minister Shiv Pratap Shukla, BJP MLA Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, former Mayor Anju Chowdhary and former MLC and BRD Medical College retired doctor, Y D Singh.

8. Jamaican Woman Held at IGI With ₹4Cr Cocaine in Stomach
A woman coming from Sao Paulo was caught at the Delhi airport after she was found carrying 74 capsules having around 900 grams of Colombian cocaine in her stomach.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths also nabbed two Nigerians working for the same cartel. Worth Rs 4 crore, the seized cocaine is the most expensive variety available in the market.
This consignment was to be delivered for the upcoming Christmas and New Year parties in Delhi-NCR.
Madho Singh, the zonal director of NCB, said his teams had received information that the woman, a Jamaican national, will be coming to Delhi via Addis Ababa by an Ethiopian Airlines flight on 6 December.

9. Four Arrested for Armed Robbery at Pizza Outlet
Four persons have been arrested for allegedly carrying out an armed robbery at a pizza outlet in outer Delhi’s Nangloi in the early hours of Monday, the police said on Thursday, 13 December.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Seju P Kuruvilla said that the accused have been identified as Sonu, Banty, Sumit and Sachin. Sonu works as a sweeper in the outlet and Sumit and Sachin are shooters of Neeraj Bawania gang.
The police said that they the police control room received a call and was informed that three persons entered the pizza outlet and robbed ₹1,50,800 cash at gunpoint.
