1. 16 Rapes and a Killing in Muzaffarpur, Bihar

A team of policemen in Bihar has dug up the grounds at a government shelter home where over 40 young girls were allegedly raped, to investigate the allegation that one girl was beaten to death and buried there. Out of the 21 reports of medical examination that have been submitted, rape of 16 girls have been confirmed by doctors, while reports are still not out on the rest of the girls who lived in the horror house in Muzaffarpur.

The girl was killed after a disagreement with the staff, one of the girls told the police.

2. Four Women Assaulted by Mob on Suspicion of Being Child-Lifters

Four women were on Monday allegedly assaulted and two of them disrobed by a mob in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on suspicion of being child-lifters, police said. The incident took place at Dawkimari village in Dhupguri block and is the fourth one this month so far in the district in which people were attacked following suspicion of being child-lifters.

Last week, a mentally deranged woman was beaten up in the same block of the district on suspicion of being a child-lifter. Amitabha Maity, Jalpaiguri superintendent of police, said the four women, aged between 20 and 50 years, were not locals and the mob assaulted them as they did not believe the answers the women gave to the questions posed to them.

3. ‘Dacoit’ Killed in Police Firing at Nalasopara

An alleged criminal was shot dead when the police fired two rounds at him in Nalasopara, Maharashtra. As per preliminary reports, two cops from the Palghar local crime branch, Mangesh Chavan and Manoj Sakpal, were in Nalasopara to arrest Govind Rana, who allegedly has a dacoity case against him.

When the cops nabbed Rana, he allegedly assaulted Chavan with a knife and began to flee. Chavan pulled out his revolver and fired two rounds at Rana, who collapsed on the floor. He was taken to the civic hospital where he was declared dead.

4. Cop Allegedly Killed LIC Agent to Fund Treatment

Railway Protection Force constable Ajay Kumar allegedly killed his friend Prem Kumar, an insurance agent, as he needed money for his liver transplant. Ajay had turned to drinking since his wife’s death four years ago, said sources.

Initial investigations reveal that Prem had told him about a large number of clients and the big money he had been earning from his work with LIC. Ajay allegedly hatched the plan with another friend, Sarvesh, who works with UP Police, after the latter narrated a story about how he and his colleagues had committed a kidnapping for ransom in Aligarh and had been absent from duty since then. Sarvesh is still absconding.

Ajay told cops that as they made Prem sit in a room and prepared to call his family, he tried to escape. Ajay then threw a lasso to stop him, but he got strangulated.

5. Two Toddy Traders Held for Plotting Murder of RTI Activist

The city crime branch arrested two toddy traders on Monday for conspiring and hiring a shooter from West Bengal to eliminate the liquor-merchant-turned-RTI-activist, Podeti Satyanarayana Goud, 56, in Telangana on 9 May.

The arrested accused have been identified as Rajeshwar Goud, 46, who lives in Bandra (East) and Rajaiyya Kasakpore, 50, who lives in Jogeshwari. Rajeshwar has toddy shops in Anand Nagar in Jogeshwari and several other places too while Kasakpore has three toddy shops in Khar, Vile Parle and Kherwadi in Bandra (East).

6. Hyderabad Banker Kills Pregnant Wife Suspecting Affair

A bank employee allegedly killed his 25-year-old pregnant wife, who he married eight months ago, suspecting her fidelity before ending his own life in Hyderabad, police said on Sunday. The body of the 30-year-old man, who worked as an Assistant Manager in a PSU bank, was found on the railway tracks on Saturday and his parents-in-laws later found their daughter's body at the couple's house, they said.

During investigation, it was found the man had doubts about his wife's fidelity and allegedly harassed her, Police Inspector V Yadagiri Reddy said. The woman, who was seven months pregnant, was found strangulated with a cloth and also smothered to death, the Inspector said based on preliminary investigation.

7. Four Killed and Six Injured in Cylinder Blast in Agra Village

Four persons were killed and five others got injured in a LPG cylinder blast in Agra. The incident took place at 9 pm close to Madhya Pradesh border Darki village of Indratnagar police jurisdiction.

According to the district administration, the occured at a local, Himmat Singh’s residence due to gas leakage in the kitchen. The local police reported that four were killed and five were injured. Police are still rescuing people and will later reveal more information once the rescue is over.

8. Fake Job Letter: Two Arrested for Cheating People of Rs 4 Lakh

Two men were arrested by the Crime Branch on Monday for cheating people of Rs 4.25 lakh on the pretext of providing them jobs at PGIMER in Rohtak, Haryana. The accused have been identified as Ram Kishan (60), a retired sweeper from PGI, Chandigarh, of Dadumajra Colony-38, and Gurtej Singh (34), an unemployed man from Milanpur village in Mohali district. The victims were Major Singh and Rajinder Singh of Dhanas. The two had filed an FIR with Chandigarh Police on 21 July and the Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police was asked to carry out the probe.

Sub Inspecter Shiv Kumar said when the two victims went to PGIMER in Rohtak, the concerned officials termed their appointment letters fake and told them to file a police complaint against the people, those issued them the appointment letters.

9. 7 Arrested for Robbery at Metro Construction Site

Seven men were arrested for their alleged involvement in a dacoity committed at a Delhi Metro construction site, police said on Monday. The accused were identified as Ishtiyad Ahmed, (35), Imran, (26), Farhan, (22) Kamal Kumar Koli, (22), Vicky, (25), Murarilal, (22) and Nirdosh, (22), Pankaj Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) said.

A copper connecting wire, one auto rickshaw, one double barrel gun, a mobile phone and a tempo was recovered from their possession, they added. The dacoits attacked a security guard present at the under-construction site near Akshardham Temple on 16 July and decamped with the valuables there, including copper wires. After the accused let loose information, other people were arrested.
