1. 40-Year-Old Caught Stealing, Arrested for 64th Time

Fifteen years, 64 arrests and dozens of people conned — 40-year-old Ramesh Jaiswal has made stealing, and getting arrested, a habit. On Saturday, 13 October, the Vanrai police arrested Jaiswal for the 64th time since 2003, after he stole a gold chain from a senior citizen at Goregaon (East) on 15 September.

Around 2pm that day, Jaiswal started talking to 61-year-old Nilesh Ghag, who was standing near a bus stop outside the railway station.

Jaiswal introduced himself as one, Narayan Patil, and engaged Ghag in a conversation with the help of two of his aides. He asked Ghag to remove his gold chain, saying he wanted to take a look. Before Ghag realised what was going on, the three men fled the spot.

2. Four Held for Two Dozen Snatching Cases

Crime Branch has arrested four men from Shamli in Uttar Pradesh who were involved in at least two dozen robberies and snatchings in southwest Delhi in the last two months.

They stayed in Delhi for a few days, participated in crimes and then fled to some other city. They were targeting Delhi every three to four months. They were also declared absconding in at least six cases registered in Haryana and Tamil Nadu.

The gang leader, Mangal Singh, along with Ram Avtar, Rakesh and Rajender were from UP and would operate in the border areas of Haryana, Punjab, UP, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

3. Three Held from Delhi for Murder of 34-Year-Old in Dadar

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch Monday arrested three persons from Delhi in connection with the murder of a 34-year-old man in Dadar on Friday, 12 October.

Police said Manoj Kumar Maurya was shot dead allegedly at the behest of his former employee, who had given a contract to two others to bump off Maurya.

DCP (crime) Dilip Sawant said that Maurya’s former employee Radha Kushwaha (37) had allegedly hired Rajendra Aherwar (30) and Hemendra Kushwaha (19) to eliminate Maurya.

“Around six months back, Kushwaha had hired Aherwar and Hemendra, his neighbours in Delhi, to kill Maurya and promised them Rs 50,000. He had given them Rs 5,000 to purchase weapons. The duo shot Maurya dead on October 12. The three accused were arrested from Delhi on Sunday,” said an officer.

4. Four Held for Assaulting Mumbai Journalist

The Mumbai Police on Sunday, 14 October, arrested four persons in connection with the attack on journalist Herman Gomes late Saturday night. Police said the four accused had assaulted him over a fight regarding hailing a taxi, which escalated.

Police are questioning the accused to find out if there was any other motive behind the attack.

A senior police officer said, “The four accused who attacked Gomes have been arrested. During questioning, they said that it was a fight over boarding a cab that led to them assaulting the journalist.”

5. 79-Yr-Old Held for Sex Assault on Minor Girl

A 79-year-old man was arrested for sexually assaulting his neighbour’s eight-year-old daughter in northeast Delhi’s Khajuri Khas on Saturday, 13 October. The accused lured the girl on pretext of giving her sweets.

DCP (northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said the accused has been booked under sections of rape and POCSO Act and has been sent to judicial custody.

As per a preliminary probe, the girl was assaulted by the accused on Saturday following which she narrated the ordeal to her mother. It was found that the accused had assaulted the child multiple times in the past as well. The child is currently undergoing counselling, police said.

6. Man Arrested for Allegedly Sodomising Physically Disabled Minor

The Dadri police on Sunday arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly sodomising his seven-year-old physically disabled neighbour on Saturday morning, 13 October.

Maintaining that a medical examination on the boy confirmed rape, police said a case under IPC Section 377 (unnatural offences) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against the accused, who was identified as Satish.

According to police, the incident took place around 4pm on Saturday when the boy’s mother was busy with some work.

7. Maharashtra Man Kills Self After Woman Pesters Him for Sex

A 38-year-old man committed suicide in Maharashtra's Parbhani district as he was allegedly fed up with a woman's persistent demand for illicit sex, police said on Monday, 15 October.

Sachin Mitkari, who worked in a hospital at Parbhani along with the woman, was found hanging from the ceiling of his house on the Parbhabni-Vasmat road Sunday, police said.

Neighbours who found him hanging alerted police, who sent the body for post-mortem, said a police official at Parbhani, which is around 500 km from Mumbai.

A suicide note written by Mitkari was found at the spot, police said.

In it, he accused the woman of harassing him and of insisting on having sexual relationship with him, they said.

8. 20-Year-Old Model Murdered in Mumbai, Body Dumped; One Held

A 20-year-old student was arrested on Monday for the murder of an aspiring model. The victim was identified as Mansi Dixit. Initial investigations suggest Dixit was murdered by the accused, Muzammil Sayyed, who allegedly strangled her, stuffed her body in a suitcase and then dumped it in Malad.

Police arrested Sayyed on Monday, 15 October.

According to the Bangur Nagar police, 20-year-old Dixit was from Rajasthan and had come to Mumbai to become a model. The police believe Dixit met Sayyed, a student, on the internet.

The two had met at Sayyed’s apartment in Andheri on Monday afternoon and after an argument, Sayyed allegedly hit Dixit with a blunt object and then strangled her to death.

9. Man Arrested for Raping Facebook Friend

A man, who posed as an actor and befriended a 19-year-old woman on Facebook, has been arrested on charges of rape from Trilokpuri on Sunday, 14 October.

The woman, a south Delhi resident, informed police that she went for his birthday celebration, when he allegedly raped her. She added that after the incident when she searched for him online, she realised that his profile was fake and no actor with that name existed.

She then reached the Sunlight Colony police station on Sunday and registered a case. She claimed to have known him for the past three months.
