1. Bizarre Ritual: Man Killed in Firing Forced Kin into Ritual, Says Father

The 28-year-old man from Assam’s Udalguri district, who suffered a fatal bullet injury when police tried to stop a ritual in which he set their house and vehicles on fire, had forced his family to take part in the ritual, his father has said. The youngster, Pulakesh Saharia, was a graduate in computer applications but did not have a job.

Admitted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, Jadab Saharia, a high school science teacher and Pulakesh’s father, told The Indian Express that his son had become “very violent” on the day of the incident and “forced everyone” to take part in the ritual.

2. Man Rapes Lover’s Minor Daughter, Booked

A woman and her lover were booked after the former’s minor daughter accused her of helping her paramour raping her at gunpoint in a village under jurisdiction of Hayathnagar police station in Sambhal.

Lodging a complaint on the behalf of the 14-year-old girl, her uncle stated. “The girl’s mother is in illicit relationship with one Faizan for sometimes, and the girl has been objecting to their relationship.

On Monday, the woman called in Faizan at her home and helped him rape her daughter at gunpoint. Hearing her screaming, I along with some neighbours reached the spot, but Faizan fled the scene brandishing his pistol.”

3. In Southeast Delhi, Three Thefts in Span of 5 Hours

In the span of a few hours on Sunday night, 7 July, two robberies and an attempted theft were reported in Southeast Delhi.

In the first case, a man was allegedly robbed at gunpoint by three armed men in Hazrat Nizamuddin. Hours later, another man was robbed, allegedly by four men, in Lajpat Nagar. The same set of men, police claimed, tried to rob another man at Hazrat Nizamuddin the same night at gunpoint.

Police suspect the assailants are the same ones who have committed at least 20 robberies since May-end. Last week, they had robbed a wedding decorator in Pandav Nagar, a family in Model Town and a 24×7 medical store in New Friends Colony.

4. 52-Year-Old Man Arrested for Killing Wife Over a Dispute About Sale of Sesame Seeds

A 52-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly beating his wife to death with sticks and an iron chain at their house in Farrukhnagar’s Jhudola village on Saturday night.

Lalman, 52, a farmer who also works as a driver, was arrested from the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) toll plaza in Sultanpur when he was allegedly trying to flee to Rajasthan, the police said.

According to the police complaint, filed by the deceased’s brother, the murder is suspected to have taken place within hours of the woman’s return to her home. Fifty-two-year-old Santosh had moved out of her home six months ago when she had allegedly sold a sack of sesame seeds without her husband’s consent, drawing his ire.

5. Gujarat Journalist, His Family ‘Attacked’ over Critical Report on Govt Project

A bureau chief of a Gujarati daily in Valsad, his wife and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, were allegedly assaulted by a former sarpanch and his two accomplices on Saturday night, 6 July, days after the journalist’s report, critical of a government project undertaken by the accused, was published in the newspaper.

One person has been arrested in this connection, police said.

Harshad Ahir (34), city bureau chief of Gujarat Mitra, his wife Ketna (30) and their child stay in an apartment at Bhagdawada in Valsad. The prime accused have been identified as Dharmesh Patel, former sarpanch of Bhagdawada village in Valsad, along with his accomplices Jaydev Desai and Sagar Patel.

6. Gau Rakshak Thrashes Loco Pilot after Train Rams into Cow near Mehsana

The loco-pilot operating the Gwalior-Ahmedabad superfast train was assaulted and abused at three different places by a gau rakshak on Saturday, 6 July, between Sidhpur and Mehsana junctions, ostensibly because the train had run over a cow.

According to the complaint filed with Mehsana GRP (Government Railway Police), a cow had suddenly jumped on to the track at around 11.17 am on Saturday, near Sidhpur junction in Patan district. Despite the stationmaster showing the red signal, the train run by loco-pilot G A Jhala slammed into it.

7. Three Held for Supplying Illegal Firearms

Three persons, including a man and his son, were arrested for allegedly supplying illegal firearms in the national capital and other states, police said Monday, 8 July.

The accused, arrested on Sunday, were identified as Praveen Kumar Verma (51), his son Prateek Kumar Verma (23), residents of Firozabad district in Uttar Pradesh and Sonu Singh (22), a resident of Dholpur in Rajasthan, they said.

According to police, there were many cases of extortion, robbery, attempt to murder registered against Sonu in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

8. Man, Sister-In-Law Arrested for Woman’s Murder in Ahmedabad

Police on Sunday, 7 July, arrested Bhupat Dantani, 32, of Jodhpur village, Satellite, and his sister-in-law, Neetu Datniya, 30, of Saherkotda, for the murder of Datniya’s neighbour Jyotsna Solanki, and for causing grievous injury to Solanki’s daughter.

Crime branch officials are looking for three other accused, Suresh Balvantsinh, Ajit Thakor and one Mafa, all friends of Dantani, who were also involved in the murder.

Inspector K G Chaudhary of city crime branch said Dantani and Datniya were lovers and Dantani often visited Datniya’s home in Saherkotda.

9. Man Shot Dead in Northeast Delhi

A 26-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was shot dead allegedly by some persons in northeast Delhi's Seelampur area, police said Monday, 8 July.

The deceased has been identified as Noor Mohammad, a resident of New Seelampur, they said.

"The incident took place on Sunday at around 10.30 pm when Mohammad was at DDA Market in the New Seelampur area. Some persons came in a car and opened fire at him," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur.

He received six bullet injuries and was rushed to the GTB hospital where he succumbed to injuries Monday morning, the DCP said.
