1. Journalist Arrested for Raping Female Colleague

A journalist working with a private news channel has been arrested for allegedly raping his woman colleague, a Delhi police officer said on Sunday, 2 December.

The man heads a department in the news channel, police said.

Police said the victim, in her 20s and a native of Kerala, approached the Punjabi Bagh police station on Thursday where she filed a complaint against the accused.

“Based on her statement, we arrested the accused from his residence on Thursday. The victim’s medical reports also confirmed rape,” a senior police officer said.

2. Two Men Shoot at Stray Dog After Robbing Man in Delhi

Two bike-borne men shot at a stray dog in their bid to flee after allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint in northeast Delhi on Sunday, 2 December, police said.

The incident took place in Seelampur area, the police said, adding that they were ascertaining the reason behind the shooting of the dog as the unidentified robbers were yet to be arrested.

Upon visiting the spot, we found that the dog was shot in the leg, a police officer said, adding that the canine was rescued and was being taken care of.

Reportedly, the miscreants were fleeing the spot after robbing Rs 15,000 from a 24-year-old Ravi Kumar, he said.

3. Fake Call Centres in NCR Have Duped Over 50,000 Across World, Say Cops

Over 50,000 people across 15 countries are suspected to have been targeted by an online fraud worth hundreds of crores in the name of I-T giant Microsoft, said investigators on Sunday,2 December, who have busted a string of unscrupulous call centres across Gurugram and Noida.

Gurugram and Noida police, in association with international investigating agencies such as Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Interpol and Canada’s Royal Canadian Mounted police (RCMP), have so far busted as many as 17 call centres in the two cities and arrested 42 people.

The probe was taken up after software giant Microsoft Corporation lodged 17 first information reports (FIRs) – eight in Gurugram and nine in Noida – on 27 November.

4. ‘Witchcraft’ Couple Held for Rape, Extortion

A Thane couple, accused of practising witchcraft, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 35-year-old Mumbai homemaker and extorting over Rs 2 lakh.

Police said the woman came in contact with Noor Shaikh (49) and Rubina (33) in 2015. The duo allegedly told her she was possessed and that they could cure her.

“They took nearly Rs 1.8 lakh for the ‘cure’ while Shaikh also raped her,” police sources said.

To silence her and extort more money, they then allegedly claimed to have intimate videos of the woman with Shaikh.

5. Caught ‘Molesting’ Women During Chhath Puja, Two Men Beaten Up by Mob in Outer Delhi

Five persons, including a juvenile, have been apprehended for allegedly molesting a woman and a girl during Chhath puja celebrations in Outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar last month. But before they were handed over to police, two of the men were beaten up by a mob.

Several videos of the incident show a crowd of 40-50 people thrashing the men, Vikas and Monu, in the presence of policemen, who later intervened. One of the videos also shows a local party worker in the crowd.

6. 40-Yr-Old Promises MHADA Flats at Discount, Cheats 3 of Rs 23 Lakh, Held

The Borivli police recently arrested a 40-year-old man who allegedly cheated three people of Rs 23 lakh, after falsely promising them MHADA flats under the chief minister’s quota.

The complainant, Anand Ghadigavkar, 33, got in touch with the accused, Rakesh Shinde, 40 in 2014. Shinde promised Ghadigavkar a 2BHK in Shailendra Nagar, Dahisar (East) for Rs 36 lakh and 1RK in Ghatkopar for Rs 10 lakh, within six months.

7. Juvenile Held for Raping 6-Year-Old

A 16-year-old boy was caught red handed while sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl and was beaten by people before being handed over to cops. He had taken the girl to her terrace and was nabbed after her grandfather heard her crying.

Police said that the incident took place in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar on Saturday and the minor was apprehended. The matter was reported when a neighbour made a PCR call.

8. Harassers Set Ablaze Woman Heading to UP Police Station

A woman set on fire in Sitapur late on Saturday, 2 December, by two men who had harassed her is battling for life after suffering 60 percent burn injuries.

The attack came when she was on her way to the police station a second time two days after being harassed to try and file a complaint after being turned away by police personnel the first time.

The 28-year-old woman was admitted to the district hospital in Sitapur, UP. The woman and the accused, who were arrested on Sunday, are Dalits.

9. Faridabad: 13-Year-Old Alleges Neighbour Kidnapped, Raped Her

A 13-year-old girl has alleged that a man who lives in her neighbourhood raped her on two occasions last month, Faridabad police said. She further alleged that the accused was accompanied by three others in the first instance, and one man the second time.

According to police, the incident came to light Saturday, a day after the second incident took place.

The girl alleged that on Friday night, while she was sleeping on the first floor of her house, the accused entered her room through the window, tied a cloth around her mouth and abducted her. She claimed that he threatened to kill her if she made any noise.
