1. Man, Pregnant Wife Hacked to Death Over Inter-caste Marriage
An inter-caste couple was murdered by an unidentified group of people in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district on Thursday, 4 July, in what local police believe is a hate crime. The woman was three months’ pregnant at the time of her killing.
If the police assessment on it being a hate crime is true, this will be the second such incident in a week after the murder of an inter-caste couple in Coimbatore on 25 July.
Police at Kulathur, Thoothukudi, identified the victims as Solairajan (24) and Jothi (21), both working in a salt pan as daily wagers.

2. NIA Arrests Gang Member of Fake Currency Racket
The National Investigation Agency on Thursday, 4 July, arrested a person suspected to be involved in circulating counterfeit currency from West Bengal, officials said.
The accused Sabir Jullur Rehman is believed to be a part of a gang circulating counterfeit currency, they said.
Rehman, a resident of Malda in West Bengal, was wanted for his alleged role in procuring, trafficking and supplying fake currency notes, they said.
His role had surfaced during a probe in the seizure of 239 fake notes of Rs 2,000 denomination having a face value of Rs. 4.78 lakh in Bhiwandi in Thane, Maharashtra, they said.

3. Boys, 10 and 11, Sexually Assault 5-Year-Old in Delhi
A 5-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two of her minor neighbours near her home in southwest Delhi’s Kapashera on Tuesday night, 2 July. Police said they have apprehended the boys and registered a case.
“The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the girl was playing with some other children in the neighbourhood. The two boys, aged 10 and 11, who were known to the girl, took her to a secluded area close by on the pretext of giving her toffees, and sexually assaulted her,” said a police officer who did not wish to be named.

4. Three Held for Stealing Vehicles, Mobiles in Ghaziabad
Police have arrested three men for stealing vehicles, mobiles and laptops to have a luxurious lifestyle, officials said Thursday, 4 July.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Singh said the arrests were made during routine checking near Geeta Sanjay intersection in the city. The accused have been identified as Neeraj, Prince and Shanky.
The checking team recovered a Honda car, two country made pistols, five live cartridges and one knife from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to robbing people after a detailed recce, the police said.

5. Two Men Wield Swords, Vandalise Shops; One Held
Two men, armed with machetes and sword, went on the rampage in northeast Delhi’s Welcome. One of them was later arrested. Police said the two men, Salman and Maroof, went to a market where they got into an argument with a shop owner. The duo left the area, but returned after some time and started vandalising the shop.
A video of the incident, which went viral on Thursday, showed the duo kicking the counter of the shop and then throwing away utensils. Salman was seen threatening the staff with a machete. He also warned passersby from intervening.

6. Online Rumour Sparks Attacks on Arunachalis in Assam Town
Visitors from Arunachal Pradesh staying in hotels in the upper Assam’s Dibrugarh town were assaulted and robbed by a mob on Wednesday night after a rumour spread about a group from that state being responsible for the death of two local residents in a road-rage incident a couple of hours earlier.
Police identified the number plate of the car involved in the road-rage incident — the vehicle is registered in Arunachal Pradesh — as the “source” of the rumour that the people responsible for it were from that state.
As in several lynching incidents across the country, reprisal fanned by rumour was quick and indiscriminate.

7. 4-Year-Old Raped by 40-Year-Old Man in Anantapur
A 4-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 40-year-old man in Anantapur town on Wednesday, 3 July. According to Anantapur town circle inspector Bala Maddileti, the incident came to light on Thursday, after family members admitted the girl at a local government hospital, doctors confirmed that it is a case of sexual assault.
Soon, upon information, cops reached the spot and began investigation. Cops said that a 40-year-old married man who resides near the girl’s house has been a regular visitor and used to neck the child playfully. Cops said that even the parents who are daily wage labourers used to allow it considering that he was married and has a child of his own.

8. Three Held for Planting IED Near School to Threaten Builder
Three men were arrested Thursday, 4 July, for allegedly planting an explosive device near a school in neighbouring Navi Mumbai, with police claiming that their purpose was to intimidate a builder and extort money from him.
The discovery of the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the school in Kalamboli on June 10 had created a stir.
The police, however, said on Thursday that there was no terror angle to the case.
The arrested men were identified as Sunil Sathe (35), resident of Pune; Manish Bhagat (45) and Deepak Dandekar (55), both residents of Navi Mumbai.

9. Two Held for Stealing High-End Cars Using Bluetooth Gadget in Bengaluru
In a first, the Bengaluru Police arrested two people for allegedly stealing high-end cars using a bluetooth-enabled tablet.
The Bengaluru South-East division police arrested one Babu from Vellore and Saddam Hussain from Chennai, who had allegedly stolen 15 cars worth Rs 1 crore in south-east Bengaluru for the past few months.
According to the police, the two used a bluetooth-enabled tablet to open the locks of parked cars in various residential areas and drove them to Chennai to sell them.
